YMMV / Stolen from the Suburbs

Go To

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: It's a movie about sex trafficking, but its best-remembered moments include Cynthia Watros getting a lot of Male Gaze and even a steamy make out scene, Sydney Sweeney in a bra and panties, and Olivia d'Abo being a prime example of Beauty Is Bad.
  • Moral Event Horizon: While she was always horrible, Milena not only threatening to kill Katherine but also telling her that she'll offer Emma up to as many of her most degenerate customers as possible simply because Katherine tried to rescue her reveals her to be Drunk with Power and a prime example of Evil Is Petty, with Female Misogynist and Would Hurt a Child also in the mix.
  • Narm: Overall, it's an intense movie, but Adam's falsetto wheezing as he tells Katherine about Emma during an asthma attack, then Katherine's attempt to portray a depraved lesbian when she goes to see Courtney at the motel are both kind of cheesy and unintentionally amusing.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: It's a movie that, despite having noble intentions, tilts a bit too much into Exploitation Film territory, with some tawdry elements and Plot Hole issues, but Cynthia Watros (Mama Bear trying to get her daughter back), Sydney Sweeney (16-year-old in a horrific predicament) and Olivia d'Abo (absolutely vile villainess) all play things perfectly straight and with genuine conviction, and elevate the movie in the process. d'Abo and Sweeney are especially powerful in the film's climactic scene.
