YMMV / Shipping Wars

Go To

  • Adorkable: Jarrett. As much as a newbie he is, it's hard to hate him for his sometimes dorkish behavior.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Jennifer tends to come off as this. Some of the fans do like her overall nice attitude and being the definitive female of the show. However, others find her to be one of the weaker shippers who often complains about certain loads and blaming her obvious mistakes on other things. Not to mention she has an annoying tendency to remind people she was raised on the farm, and often lets other people do her work for her (especially when she was pregnant) and even tries to manipulate men into lowering costs for certain things.
  • Catharsis Factor: Anytime Roy tore into rude customers or those that are trying to rip him off. Shippers often have to stay professional when dealing with customers, even if they are incredibly rude toward them back. However, this did NOT applied to Roy. He never held anything back toward those that are rude and unprofessional toward him and will flat out call them "idiots" or anything to that degree, even women. Many people wished they can get away with the stuff that Roy does and still make good amount of money at the end of the day; but still find it satisfying whenever Roy rips into idiots that definitely had it coming.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Roy Garber! He was extremely popular with the fans with his status as The Ace that didn't take crap from anybody. He almost always gets his loads done to perfection cemented by his popular Catchphrase: "Perfect just like Roy!" He is also a major Deadpan Snarker who isn't afraid to make blunt and witty comments toward anyone. Either it be the other shippers, or rude customers. Not to mention that despite his no-nonsense attitude, he has a Hidden Heart of Gold where he once shipped an entire load without even asking for money. This is a man who is hell bent on getting paid for his services and decided to went out his way to ship a load for free because he sympathizes with the kid losing his father at a young age. Roy isn't also afraid to help out Jarrett and Jennifer where despite viewing them as less than capable shippers compared to him, he is more than willing to train them in his ways to make sure they can handle themselves. It's easy to say MANY were heartbroken to hear about his sudden passing and many fans will agree the show dropped in quality after he passed away.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: At the end of an episode, Roy's contractors joke about giving him a heart attack. Such jokes are already pretty unsavory, but it becomes even worse in hindsight when, a few days after the episode aired, Roy suffers an actual heart attack and dies.
    • Similarly, in a season 3 episode aired a little over a year before his passing, Roy helps put together a skate park. As he does, he comments "Pain can't stop me. Of course, if you drop dead of a heart attack, you're all done." Ouch.
  • Never Live It Down: A lot of people lost respect for Chris after losing a bet fair and square to Roy with many fans agreeing with Roy how much of a sore loser Chris was.
  • The Scrappy: Dusty Davis is this in spades. A lot of fans find him to be a very poor substitute for the late Roy due to his obnoxious, self-centered personality. Especially considering while Roy may been one of the bluntest people in the world, he has a Hidden Heart of Gold and is genuinely trying to look out for the other shippers, mainly Jennifer and even Jarrett, in his own way. Dusty, however, has none of Roy's redeeming qualities especially with fans calling him out that he is trying to act too hard as an antagonist. Not to mention his annoying habit of throwing hissy fits whenever things don't go his way (even more so than Jenn), and the need to swear in nearly every single sentence he says.
  • Seasonal Rot: After Roy died, the show got considerably worse. He was replaced by Dusty (see The Scrappy above). Dusty is pretty much identical to Roy, only with his negative personality traits pushed up to eleven and his good personality traits thrown out the window.
