YMMV / School Of Thrones

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The opening rock rendition of the Game of Thrones theme is incredibly badass.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Theon. Rather ironic for the canon Butt-Monkey.
    • As befits canon, Khal Drogo before he even appeared.
    • Littlefinger, thanks to the actor bearing a quite startling resemblance to Aiden Gillen.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Robb introduces his best friend. As soon as Theon says his name everyone else in the class starts booing and throwing things at him.
    • Robb before going into prom, wondering if he looks "too ironic"
    • Joffrey at the end, trying to find a place to stand in the group shot where he can be seen.
    • The whole-scene Mean Girls Shout-Out in Episode 2, with Tyrion taking the place of Regina George.
    Joffrey: Tyrion Lannister slapped me in the face. It was awesome!
    • "Ours is the kegger! WOOOOO!" (door slammed in face)
  • Genius Bonus:
    • Jon Snow is stated to be adopted instead of Ned's illegitimate child, which is by Season 6 proved to be correct with Jon's parents being Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark;
    • There are a couple of references to a certain Fanon theory about Tyrion's parentage. Melisandre's contribution to the above, as well as Tyrion's reaction to the Burn Book in ep.3;
    • The Ship Tease moments between Jon and Dany are a Shout-Out to them being one of the most popular Fan-Preferred Couple.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Considering what has happened in Game of Thrones since the parody came out:
    • Dany's hinted pyromania doesn't look as good in light of what Daenerys did to King's Landing.
    • The entire Jon/Dany pairing, presented as a humorous possibility in School of Thrones becomes this in the light of their revealed blood relationship.
    • Unsurprisingly, multiple characters that were then still alive have since died in canon. Usually tragically, as is the norm for Game of Thrones.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Considering the parody was created just as Game of Thrones Season 3 was premiering, quite a few things have since happened in the actual show that made the parody even funnier:
    • Jon/Dany, then a Crack Pairing since the characters had never met, became canon.
    • Jon, Tyrion, and Dany all knowing each other and working together also ended up coming true.
    • In Episode 2, Littlefinger says, "Youth — now there's a frightening affliction," accompanied by a shot of Melisandre with a pregnancy test. This becomes particularly funny after the TV show's reveal that Melisandre is actually ancient, only looking young through magical means.
  • Hollywood Homely: Addressed for Mary Kate Wiles, where she gets an Unnecessary Makeover, and half the comments are about how attractive she is.
  • Ho Yay: Invoked in-universe with Robb and Theon, as well as Renly and Loras.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Melisandre and the "Hot Dog" (The Hound) are Marisha Ray and Matthew Mercer!
  • Squick:
    • Littlefinger's idea of sex education.
    • One of the public reveals of the finale is that Sansa made out with "Hot Dog" (the show's version of The Hound), who protests it only happened once. While it probably refers to the mutual attraction they eventually get in the books (and the characters now both being in high school makes it less squicky), another thing that has happened in them is The Hound attempting to rape Sansa while drunk.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The title sequence, designed after the award-winning one from Game of Thrones and very good in its own right.
