YMMV / Sacrificial Princess & the King of Beasts

Go To

  • Creepy Cute: Princess Amit has a scary crocodile-like face, but a sweet demeanor, and is one of Sariphi's most trusted friends and confidant.
  • Evil Is Cool: Nir, the loyal yet honorable Dual Wielding servant of Fenrir. When he fights Anubis for the first time, Nir first points out the two of them do not need to fight each other—even going so far as to offer Anubis the chance to join Fenrir's side.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Chancellor Anubis is loyal to King Leonhart to a fault and was his childhood friend. His dislike of Sariphi can easily be read as jealousy as much as a dislike of humans, with Sariphi even empathizing with his concern for the king. After Justice Set is defeated and Anubis wants to resign his position in shame, Leonhart comforts him by holding his hand. All this makes one wonder if there is more to his feelings for the king than just friendship.
    • Fenrir and Nir as well, for much the same reasons as Anubis and Leonhart. In the end it’s revealed that Fenrir asked Nir to kill him if he lost the battle with Leonhart, openly saying that he only trusts Nir to do it. After he kills Fenrir, Nir holds his corpse in his arms while proclaiming him his only king.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Chancellor Anubis has a cold demeanor and distaste for humans, constantly trying to persuade Leonhart to get rid of Sariphi. However, we learn that as a child his father never gave him affection before his early death, leaving his son to feel that he cared more about his duty than him and giving him a huge inferiority complex, with Leonhart, and eventually Jormungand, being his only friends.
    • Fenrir may be a bloodthirsty maniac who wants to bring the Beast Realm back to its days of strife and death, but it's hard not to empathize with his backstory. He was the youngest son of a cold and abusive king who treated him as a disappointment in contrast to his brothers, eventually giving him a chance to prove himself by battling Leonhart. After he was easily beaten by Leonhart who didn’t even try, his father cut his ear off and disowned him, all before he was even an adolescent. In the end he is so obsessed with beating Leonhart that he orders Nir, his Only Friend, to help him commit suicide should he lose.
    • Justice Set. While he is a backstabbing bastard who plans to institute a Fantastic Caste System across the realm, he has spent his entire life believing that he is the illegitimate child of the previous king who happened to look like his mother, leading to them being ignored in favor of Leonhart and the early death of his mother. Even as he tortures Leonhart before attempting to execute him, Set boasts that only after the former’s death will he be able to take pride in himself. This leads to his realization that a lie drove everything he did as he attempts to use a spell that only royals can master, which leads to his death as he remembers his mother's love.
  • Stoic Woobie: King Leonhart must hide his true heritage from his people and has to deal with the weight of running an entire kingdom, all while fighting to be with the woman he loves.
