YMMV / Rex Factor

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Aethelred the Unready gets a much later follow-up episode, "Aethelred the Ready," which questions his useless image. Granted, even being generous he's boosted from "cowardly and apathetic" to "unpopular and a bad politician."
  • Archive Panic
  • Award Snub: of course, any decision to award or not to award the Rex Factor has its detractors, but the one that caused real controversy was Ali's decision not to give it to Edgar the Peaceable, which fans complain about to this day. Note that Ali rowed a representation of Edgar across a lake in penancenote  and this still didn't help.
  • Game-Breaker: As a form of Early-Installment Weirdness, initially Longevity was scored just by adding the number of years a monarch reigned to their overall score, meaning monarchs who were fairly useless but ruled a long time (such as Aethelred the Unready, or Henry III) got misleadingly high scores. This got an Obvious Rule Patch later on.
  • Memetic Badass: William Marshal, the Martial Marshal.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: "Heleanor" for Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine.
  • Rooting for the Empire: Ali loves Braveheart, but roots for Edward I.
  • Squick: Eadred had such terrible digestive problems that he had to chew on his meat, suck the juices, then spit it out.
