YMMV / Poopsie

Go To

  • Critical Dissonance: Anyone who isn't the target audience is mostly repulsed by this toy line. But Poopsie managed to stay popular in the toy market, though future releases have been canceled from 2021 onward.
  • Fridge Horror: To mix the slime for the Surprise Unicorns and Sparkly Critters, you have to vigorously shake them. The characters in both lines are in the infant-to-toddler age range. It should be noted that shaking a baby/toddler could seriously injure or kill one.
  • Fridge Logic: The Poopsie Unicorns are all but outright stated to be infants, and the Rainbow Surprise dolls are meant to be teenagers (sophomores at Rainbow High), but Oopsie Starlight of the former, along with Rainbow Dream and Amethyst Rae of the latter have tattoos. Let's hope the tattoos are actually temporary, or... ouch.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The United Kingdom apparently loves these toys, to the point it got an official magazine and a window display for the Hamley's store in London based on the Rainbow Surprise spinoff line.
  • Memetic Mutation: The entire toy line is infamous in the toy-collecting community for how, to put it nicely, strange the concept is at its core.
  • Moe: Nauseating elements aside, the characters can be appealing with their Animesque eyes and bright colors.
    • Cutie Tooties and QT Unicorns, probably because they have little-to-none of the recurring pooping gimmick (though some may be put off by the fact that some in both lines, such as QT unicorn Fifi Frazzled, are shown vomiting).
  • Nausea Fuel: It's about sparkly magic poop and vomit, and hoo boy does it have a lot of it.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: The most notable thing about the franchise is surprisingly a lawsuit involving Louis Vuitton. Ironically it wasn’t Louis Vuitton suing MGA Entertainment for their “Pooey Puitton” parody, but actually the other way around to subvert such a case from happening.
  • Squick:
    • Pooey Puitton, which is exactly as it sounds. A Talking Poo designer bag.
    • The Surprise Unicorns and Sparkly Critters, heavily implied to be toddlers what with the diapers and pacifiers, wear crop-tops, piercings, and even tattoos.
    • In the Rainbow Surprise series, Pixie Rose, portrayed by her doll, has a crush on Brad Gooper, which is shown to be portrayed by a real, live-action human. Uhhhhhh....
    • The celebrity-inspired and pop culture-icon Expy keychains, which of course had to be all Talking Poo caricatures. Some are even flesh-colored to resemble their skin. Eugh.
    • The "Poopsie Slime Surprise" music video. The lyrical content is already pretty disgusting, but the video also features the unicorns - who are clearly modeled to look like toddlers - wiggling and gyrating while the camera zooms in on their exposed midriffs.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: The Rainbow Surprise line was eventually retooled into Rainbow High, a fashion doll brand that's since become a bestseller with both children and collectors. Although a lot of general design elements remain the same between the two lines, Rainbow High dropped the blind box aspect, the slime gimmick, and the gross-out humor, which probably contributed significantly to its success. The Rainbow High dolls are also small enough that they can share clothes with other fashion dolls, and they're generally higher-quality than their Rainbow Surprise predecessors, with more articulation and inset eyes.
  • Ugly Cute: Has this appeal upon audience members who are not grossed out by... well, everything.
