• Adaptation Displacement: Oobi hasn't aired in Turkey for years, but the Durex commercial that featured Oobi was very popular with Turkish viewers in 2014, overshadowing the show.
• Creator's Pet: Uma seems to have gotten this treatment throughout the third season, with her as the star of many episodes and Oobi left Out of Focus.
• Growing the Beard: The show's transition from shorts to full episodes is cited as this. Most parents agree that the show improved by extending the plotlines and adding more Muppeteers to the cast.
• Harsher in Hindsight: "Babysitter!" has the kids be watched by the responsible, yet fun Randy, who is played by Kevin Clash, however, with all that has happened, leading to the end of his career^note On Sesame Street at least, he still works on various Jim Henson Company produced projects, such as The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, he wouldn't seem like the person to watch your kids.
• Periphery Demographic: According to Noel Macneal (Kako), the show was popular with stoned college kids.
• Signature Scene:
  • The scene in "Showtime!" where Oobi and Kako's mouths are glued together, famously compared to an orgy on The Soup.
  • Oobi's memetic Freak Out in "Oobi's Car!".
• Squick: Kako's food in "Grampu Day" is a gross combination of tuna, jam, and hot sauce. Grampu also finds it rather gross, supposedly.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!/Unnecessary Makeover: Many fans found the colored googly eyes at the end of the show's lifespan to be a needless form of distinction, believing the regular googly eyes were fine and that the characters could easily be distinguished thanks to their clothing or mouth shapes.
