YMMV / NoPixel

Go To

  • Archive Panic: It would be utter madness to even try to catch up with the entire NoPixel saga from every perspective. There are a TON of Twitch streamers who have been active on NoPixel at any given point in time, and given how each player's stream can last multiple hours, watching the archives of even just one player will take far too much time. The best practice is to find some character you like, and review their most popular highlights and clips to get a feel for their major storylines and interactions.
  • Broken Base:
    • NP Public. On one side, there are people who think that it dilutes NoPixel's uniqueness, are unhappy with its prio and queue system, don't like how chaotic it is compared to the whitelist server, and are salty that it was seemingly built to appease xQc (who was briefly banned from the whitelist server) and his viewers. On the other side, people are thrilled that it gives users the chance to try out NoPixel in an out-of-continuity environment, gives potential whitelist applicants a foot in the door, allows the server to receive more donations to recoup operating costs, and reduces the amount of players on the whitelist server who only join for Level Grinding and not roleplay.
    • The decision not to revive "perma'd" characters in 3.0 led to two camps: those who wanted to see popular dead characters return and were subsequently disappointed, and those who believed that it would have negatively affected immersion and effectively cheapen the impact of certain 2.0 storylines.
  • Cargo Ship:
    • In-Universe, Judd marries his tractor.
    • Dee Mented platonically thought of her hatchets as her only friends, because of the Insane Clown Posse song "My Axe."
    • Stacey Doyle is sexually attracted to cop cars.
  • Foe Yay Shipping:
    • Andi Jones x Mike Block had an alarming number of fans at its peak. It kinda dropped off after her mayoral term ended and she married Denzel, but it's still out there.
    • Mikey Dias x Dee Mented was also really popular for a while, despite the fact that Dee was a Stalker with a Crush who mutilated one of Dias' friends.
  • Good Bad Bugs: Characters call in-game glitches "scuff" or "Harry Potter" and will sometimes incorporate it into the roleplay for humorous purposes. If they accidentally fall through the bottom of the map, that's the "heck realm."
    • One really bad glitch led to all cars that Dexx and Ghost climbed into glitching out and spinning around wildly in the air. They played it off as some kind of bizarre voodoo curse.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • In one scenario, a couple of Trump supporter parody characters hijack Bryce Miller's plane and fly it into a government building to try and stop the 2020 election count. After the violent US Capitol storming incited by President Trump on January 6, 2021, which temporarily delayed the certification of the Electoral College ballots, it became a lot less funny.
    • Koil playing Francis J. Francer playing Donald Trump was originally pretty silly, as it featured him shooting ray guns at citizens, having Randy Bullet shoot a "socialist" in order to gain citizenship, and nuking Los Santos while tweeting "all socialist shud pay". Post-storming, this became a lot more somber with Trump's mental stability in question, with his nuclear arsenal access cited as a specific concern during the waning days of his presidency.
    • Deputy Mikey Dias' death and funeral became this after his streamer, CallMeGrub, passed away less than a year later.
    • Boe Jangles showed back up in the city in June 2020, was immediately taken hostage, and told his friend Trooper Snow (who responded to the scene) that "2020's a bad year so far." Boe's player Blue622 tragically passed away less than a month later.
    • In January 2020, there was an outbreak of the "Hironavirus" in the city, which ended up being one person with the regular flu surrounded by everyone else overreacting. At the time, the COVID-19 Pandemic wasn't quite yet a full-blown pandemic, and the severity of the disease wasn't fully known (early incorrect reports were that the symptoms weren't worse than the common cold).
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The character Fingle Dan was briefly a cop in the NP Public alternate universe about a year before he was court-mandated to undergo police academy training in the prime NoPixel universe.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Bryce Miller, who's been romantically linked to Pixie Plum, Emma Gaine, Andi Jones, Mercy Moon, Elena Vega, Erin Cox, and Cleo Shaw, with each ship earning its fair share of fans. It's become a running joke that whenever Bryce even looks at a woman, LGX's chat will immediately ship them.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: No one for a moment believed that Mel Rickenbacker would be put to death for Zack Rack's murder. The general consensus was that either Mayor Denzel would grant him last-minute clemency (which he did) or Mel would be broken out of prison.
  • Memetic Loser:
    • Mantis's characters Jerry Callow and Dominic Toretti, 100%.
    • After getting their asses swiftly and repeatedly handed to them by literally every other gang in the city, the East Side Ballas went from a powerful gang to a citywide joke overnight.
  • Memetic Mutation: Has its own page.
  • Never Live It Down: Al Saab still catches a lot of flack for the time when he permanently murdered Jackie Hyde.
  • Obscure Popularity: NoPixel isn't known outside of Twitch, but that doesn't stop it from having a huge fanbase with love for its myriad characters.
