YMMV / Meet the Fatheads

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Melon Man. Was he really evil, and trying to kill the Fatheads with explosive melons? Or was it all an accident, and Melon Man didn't know that the melons were deadly?
    • Meta-wise, Rollo is generally considered a Take That! against the wallaby he was based on, including said wallaby. While it's definetely true that Rollo isn't a very complimentary portrayal, he's also the sole character remotely resembling a decent person
  • Americans Hate Tingle: Rollo has no characterisation outside of being a block-headed Australian stereotype with a really crude take on the country's accent and dialect. At least one Australian felt alienated by this portrayal.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Rollo. Some loved him from the beginning, others did not.
    • The baby Fathead introduced in the revival. Some saw it as a needless addition that would upset the natural comedic balance of the classic series. Others were more open to the character, as he was created by the original writer.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: A lot, like the pencil sharpener guy who will appear randomly during an episode and say "Meanwhile..."
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The Chameleon Brothers remake was never finished, and only a handful of design documents have ever been found. Due to the nonsensical plot and horrendous animation, most fans don't consider this a big loss, but still keep circulating them for trivia reasons if nothing else.
  • Makes As Much Sense In Context: It's a very...weird show. A married couple beating each other up with parking meters, grossing out everyone around them, and an Australian-accented beaver who slams his head into everything.
  • Memetic Mutation: Yep! You broke it! You finally broke it! You SMASHED! MY! EYE! Now what, huh?! Boy, are you gonna get it now...
    • "Guess what I got?" "A lobotomy?!"
    • "Don't give him anything!" (squishes head)
    • "Would you like some cheesecake, Rollo?"
      • "Yes, thank you mate." (smashes head against table) "Thank you. It was delicious mate."
    • "That's IT! The bake sale is OFF!"
    • "Pineapples!"
      • "Oh, boy! When are we gonna have pineapples, mate?"
      • "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! G'night, hosers."
  • Paranoia Fuel: Melon Man. So, there's this friendly guy who you trust, and delivers food to you every day. Then, one day, his food turns out to be Made of Explodium, and almost kills you and your spouse when it explodes.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The special released twenty years later got this reaction from a minority of fans due to adding a baby character, but most people did in fact love the special regardless of the change.
