YMMV / Marlowe (2022)

Go To

  • Cliché Storm: The film went so hard into making a clean-cut Film Noir, it unintentionally turned into a checklist of stock characters, plot devices and dialogues so purple, they went magenta - all served very straight and dry. It doesn't make the movie bad by itself, but it takes a specific mindset to not be thrown off by its approach, while it undermines all the production value and effort put into making it.
  • Common Knowledge: "It's not an actual Marlowe adaptation". It is - but not from a story written by Raymond Chandler.
  • Critical Dissonance: The movie was a review bomb from both critics and audiences, but at least audiences assumed it was So Okay, It's Average, rather than ravaging it.
  • Questionable Casting: Liam Neeson is a fantastic actor, everyone acknowledges but perhaps seventy is too old to be playing Phillip Marlowe at the height of his career.
