YMMV / Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop: Bao Bao's Revenge: Reflect on your childhood experiences properly, since you may have exaggerated certain events that hold dear to you.
  • Angst? What Angst?: Adorabat seems to immediately get over losing her innocent outlook on life in "Outfoxed." Even Mao Mao and Badgerclops are surprised by her reaction.
  • Awesome Art: The animation, courtesy of Titmouse, is very fluid. Special mention goes to the opening.
  • Awesome Music: The theme song, which almost sounds like an anime opening. The credits music is very nice too.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Orangusnake being two individuals is obvious when you look at his details carefully, but Orangusnake meeting Mao Mao (and Bao Bao) before the series is not properly foreshadowed.
  • Catharsis Factor: Even if it's ripe with Nightmare Fuel, it is really satisfying to see Mao Mao outsmarting, and then psychologically torture Rufus in "Outfoxed" after spending most of the episode (and three years prior) a Karma Houdini.
  • Designated Hero: Mao Mao at times. There are certain episodes where his various neuroses end up turning him into the biggest threat.
    • This applies to Badgerclops as well to a lesser degree. While he makes for a good foil, his wisecracks and gluttony can easily turn him into a selfish jerk.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Pinky gets more attention than just about any other Sweetiepie thanks to his Chaotic Stupid antics and generally hilariously dumb attempts at being a jerk.
    • Ol' Blue is rather popular among the sweetypies due to his downbeat and deadpan personality.
    • Tanya Keys has a following of her own because of her sultry voice and Chaotic Good persona.
  • Foe Yay Shipping: Some fans like to ship Mao Mao with Tanya Keys.
  • He Really Can Act: Despite having a mostly Amateur Cast, many have complimented the show and its actors for the high quality of their performances and for having a large variety of unique sounding voices on display.
  • Moe: Adorabat, who is, well, adorable and sweet.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Mao Mao confirmed for Smash" Explanation
  • Popular with Furries: Naturally, given that it's set in a World of Funny Animals.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion:
    • Adorabat can be confusing at first. She is a female, but given that her appearance has no Tertiary Sexual Characteristics, she could very much as well be confused as a boy with a feminine voice to make her sound more innocent. Not to mention that Badgerclops calls her "dude." Word of God has even suggested that she is genderfluid (or was at least originally conceived as such) as some older script pages and concept art use he/him pronouns for her as well.
    • Bigger case is Ramaraffe. Many would assume she's a guy.
    • Another case is Scoops, voiced by the same actress. Despite her eyelashes, many assumed she was a boy as well.
