- Broken Base: The Arthur and Ray era. To some it's a welcome extension and revival of the series with some good episodes, to others Ray can never replace Terry and fits into the category of Replacement Scrappy.
- Harsher in Hindsight:
- "Aces High and Sometimes Very Low" sees Terry got revenge on heavy who hit his girlfriend. Dennis Waterman's third wife later accused him of abuse.
- "Monday Night Fever" has Arthur trying to woo an aspiring nightclub singer by bragging up his non-existant music credentials, saying that he had a drink with Jimmy Savile.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Property conman Freddie Fenton (Derek Jacobi) evades Terry on a London highstreet by slipping back into the safety of his offices. Terry is left on the pavement yelling 'Fenton! Fenton!' through the locked door. This scene now conjures up images of the "Fenton! Fenton!" video of a dog named Fenton chasing a herd of deer across a country road while his owner runs after him shouting his name, which went viral in 2012.
- Magnificent Bastard: "Senior Citizen Caine": Cecil Caine is an elderly, flamboyant yet genial businessman and a legend within the community for dealing and grafting himself a fortune and far more shrewd than he appears. Freed of his last responsibility and knowing his lazy offsprings, Johnny and Sonia, plan to institutionalize him to steal everything and that the authorities are closing in, Cecil lets nothing interfere with his retirement. Transferring his businesses but none of his money to his children so they'll have to actually work or face bankruptcy, an ambushed Cecil manages to improvise an escape with all the cash on the premises and goes to ground. Banking on Johnny breaking Arthur, Cecil purposely lets him in and hires Terry. Gathering the rest of his hidden funds Cecil switches them with a decoy, then waits for Johnny and his goons to arrive, the fight spurring the authorities into action. Using the confusion to escape to his lover and real money, Cecil flees London leaving his children to explain the financial irregularities.
- Replacement Scrappy: Ray, to some. Also Arnie, who replaces Des after Series 3, and has less comic effect on the episodes he appears in.
