• Awesome Music: The soundtrack of the first game, especially the remixed music in the Sega CD and PlayStation ports.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: The game was originally an FMV Rail Shooter similar to Mad Dog McCree but set in the present day. After the release of this game, American Laser Games, the same company that created Mad Dog McCree, would later make Crime Patrol.
• Most Wonderful Sound: Your default gun firing in the first game, which is taken right from the Dirty Harry movies.
• Narm:
  • The first level of the original game, "The Bank Robbery", has a serious tone to it but there's so many crooks there just to rob one bank that it seems like everyone would get a small cut from their role. During the vehicle pursuit section, each large sedan has so many mooks inside that it verges on parody. This is supposedly a regular big city bank but it's being robbed as if it has the gold of Fort Knox in its vaults.
  • Every level ends with "Situation under control, Unit 5 out"... which would make sense for the most part, but the third level ends with the boss blowing up along with the plane the terrorists hijacked. Is the situation under control now?
• Overshadowed by Controversy: The first game was known for its realistic graphics and violent content, leading to Moral Guardians to question the game. However, it's not as extreme as the controversies over other games released around the time, such as Mortal Kombat and Doom.
• That One Boss:
  • The boss in the Chinatown Assault stage. He can actually block your bullets using his swords, and unless you time your shots right, he can actually take quite a while to go down.
  • The Final Boss. It consists of a military helicopter with missiles and machine guns that can shoot you if you don't destroy it fast enough. Destroying the machine gun isn't a problem, but then you have to deal with the missiles which the boss can launch so many at you. The turrets where the missiles launch from are pretty hard to shoot at due to the size. And after all the weapons are destroyed, you then have to take out the pilot, but at least by then the boss will be easy to take down.
• Suspiciously Similar Song:
  • "Rolling Badguys" from the first game sounds similar to "Walk the Dinosaur" by Was (Not Was).
  • Shoot Into the Street is like a more frentic, faster-paced take on The Heat is On by Glen Frey (Featured in Beverly Hills Cop). The chorus is especially notable.
  • ''Dead or Alive'', the boss theme, shares some similarities with the Mission Impossible theme, especially the 1988 version.
