* EvilIsSexy: Delphine is surprisingly easy on the eyes.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The Anatoray and Disith conflict is supposed to be a sad case of MirroringFactions with both sides being manipulated by the Guild and both ultimately being good people who need to work past their differences. Unfortunately due to the show spending much more time with the Anatoray side and developing their characters more, they come across as more of a heroic nation with some bad apples when compared to the largely faceless Disith soldiers. It get's especially bad when we see the backstory on how both Anatoray and Disith face climate problems, Disith is the one to declare war and is the one who invades. When the cold of their nation worsens and makes their land uninhabitable, they launch an all out attack on the Anatoray capital (full of civilians rather than soldiers) with the intent of TakingYouWithMe. Instead of trying to broker a peaceful solution they'd rather see their enemies dead too.

She strings along Dio's only friend Luciola with promises to free Dio, but betrays and disintegrates Luciola when she determines he's too much trouble for her any more before dancing amidst his ashes. A cold-blooded murderer who has enemies and civilians alike slaughtered, Delphine delights in the loss of life either by the Guild's weaponry or when she deprives the world of needed resources to [[TheHedonist enjoy delicious meals]]. She states the fact people have died for her to enjoy the food makes it even sweeter. Representing the worst [[AristocratsAreEvil decadence]] and {{manipulative|Bastard}} cruelty of the aristocracy, when Delphine captures one of her greatest enemies, she subjects him to her [[ColdBloodedTorture personal torture]] and adorns him with thorned rose vines, gleefully mocking him for how much more beautiful he is now.

* CanonSue: Claus is very good at anything to do with Vanships, like piloting, navigating, and mechanics, wins everyone over with his personality, and every female of age is attracted to him (and at least one male.). Especially when he's placed in the cockpit with characters who have reasonable flaws like Lavie and Tatiana, Claus comes out looking a little ''too'' good. It's reasonably justified because he wasn't some hick farmboy that's an InstantExpert as soon as he gets in the cockpit, he'd already been flying dangerous missions for years, and the BackStory shows him darn near getting killed a couple times earning his wings. And daring airplane pilots have always been MrFanservice. However, he is an ExtremeDoormat, and a ''courier'', not a fighter pilot; every time he goes into combat he runs out of ammo at best, and regularly gets shot to pieces. On the other hand, give him Lavie and a blockade to run and he blows the doors off ''everyone.'' [[spoiler:In the final episode, he and Lavie run the Grand Stream solo; an mission even their ''fathers'' - '''the most decorated Vanship team in recorded history''' - '''''died''''' trying to complete.]]

* HoYay: The engineer Gale admits to a crush on Claus, and Dio seems awfully fond of him, with all that glomping and whatnot. Of course, everybody loves Claus in this series. And who does Claus get that doughy-eyed look of love for? [[CargoShip His vanship]]. There's also considerable subtext between Tatiana and her navigator.

* NightmareFuel: Delphine [[spoiler:blows Lucciola to tiny pieces,]] then laughs and twirls as his remains fall down like snowflakes.

If that wasn't enough, she [[spoiler:tricks Luciola, Dio's only friend before Lavi and Klaus came along, by pretending to agree to let Dio go free... but Luciola ends up being dissolved by the ring she gives him.]] She also takes delight in pointing out how the delicious meals she eats needlessly waste the resources of the world...and goes as far as to say that the fact that people have died in order for her to eat such delicacies makes her meals all the sweeter. It can safely be said that Delphine is a [[EvilIsSexy beautiful]], [[LackOfEmpathy soulless]] ''beast''.

* CharacterDerailment: In the TV series, Mullin gets into an argument with his fellow mechanics because they were implying that Claus and Tatiana became an item after their crash landing, saying that he felt sorry for Lavie. In the ''Travelers from the Hourglass'' manga, he implies that Claus and Tatiana became an item after their crash landing ''in front of Lavie'', then wonders why she got upset.

* LesYay: Dian and her navigator Viola are heavily implied to be an item. Viola's jealousy whenever Fam gets "too close" to Dian is already indicative of this, Dian at one point vouches to protect Viola, and in the last few scenes they are shown to be ''very'' close indeed.
