YMMV / Jobby the Hong

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Outside of his toy reviews, Jobby also known as a singer. Some of his songs and covers were quite a banger itself, thanks to his friend Omar Diaz, a.k.a. CIVIL helping with most of the compositions.
    • Jobby made a vocal cover of a normally lyricless "Dispersion Relation" into a somber and melancholic song of a man edging at despair. For the 01 Studio Cell (Definitely NOT Unicron) review, he did a more upbringing version of the song, which represents his delight and happiness of having his dream toy came true.
    • At the end of the SH Monsterarts Shin Godzilla review, we're presented with the amazing low-high baritone acapella of the infamous Who Will Know from Shin Godzilla, portraying Jobby's slow descent to madness for everyone to see.
    • Jobby and CIVIL created an original song inspired by the Cult Classic The Room, Red Dress, pretty much outlining Johnny's role in the story. It also features an impressive rap segment where Jobby beautifully shows his hidden high-speed rap talent. The first theme tune was used as Jobber's own intro theme starting with the black foam background videos, and it became iconic to him ever since.
    • To commemorate the return of Swivel-Man, Jobby and CIVIL made Swivel-Man no Uta, his parody of Devilman no Uta centered around the titular alter ego. Who thought that remixing an iconic 1960's superhero anime theme into a slick pop-jazz rendition of a deranged Manchild obsessed about swiveling a toy's joints can be such a banger? It's also the most popular out of all his songs so far, and its instrumental version has obviously been used for his reviews' Articulation Montages.
When action figures are at hand,
      The Swivel's in command!
      He isn't funny, but I don't care!
      He's Swivel-Man...
      HE'S SWIVEL-MAA~AAN!!

    • Despite returning first before Swivel-Man, the Gundam Ghost was pretty much the butt monkey of the channel and was never taken seriously, even in toys that involve the titular Gundam in some cases. That is until the MG RX-78-2 Gundam 3.0 review, where he returns with REVIEW MORE GUNDAM, a Rhymes on a Dime Diss Track directed towards himself from the Ghost's point of view, showcasing more of his rapping talent that's only briefly shown during the aforementioned Red Dress. Who knew the ever so chaotic RONALD REAGAN OTHER SIDE worked as an epic diss track?
  • Crosses the Line Twice: His main source of humor. Things like his constant Take Thats and Black Comedy shouldn't be so damn funny, but he gets it to be hilarious.
  • Discredited Meme: The meme "Swivel Here!" caught a flak among the toy reviewer community as his fans start spamming the word here and there in other toy review videos, and they got predictably sick of it. Jobby addressed this controversy and decided to make things right, even goes so far as to not using the word (and "killing" the Swivel-Man himself in a video), until eventually he would use it again in his S.H.Figuarts Devilman (Anime Ver.) review, including releasing a song about Swivel-Man himself after his resurrection.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Jobby tries to end his review of Bold Forms Gladius on an optimistic note by saying that he sees potential in the line and hopes that it doesn't end with Gladius. Too bad that it did.
    • During the sponsorship plug segment of the Master Grade RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 3.0 video, he made a slight compliment on Suletta Mercury for being too pure for his taste. Cue the events of the Episode 12 Epilogue.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • In his MakeToys Meteor review, Jobby says that he hopes messy backs don't become a trend in Masterpiece-style Transformers figures. He would later turn it into a running gag when it did become a trend.
    • In his review of Ocular Max Azalea, Jobby says that the vehicle mode's back consist of her waist crotch. Jobby noted that it would be awkward if the back of the car has genitals, in which he relieved that she doesn't designed that way. Come a year later and the Big Firebird EX-01 Nicee car mode's back is designed exactly that way (with a minor detail), which he dreadfully pointed out near the end of the review.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Swivel here!"Explanation. Notable for being one of the 'memes' that Jobby disowned because of his fanbase repeatedly spamming the quote in other toy reviewers, to the point that he flat out struggles not to say the dreaded word ever again, though it won't stop the word (and Swivel-Man) from coming back and promptly using it again. Details can be found on Discredited Meme section above.
    • "Putitinmyass!"Explanation
    • "BUTJOOOBBYYYY!!!"Explanation
    • "Did you say GUNDAM?!"Explanation
    • Whenever Jobby coined a transforming toy-related term regarding it's shortcomings, expect to see them repeatedly throughout the series. Notable examples include "Cardboard Engineering"* and "Spaghetti Engineering"*, and speaking of cardboard, the #BackLivesMatter itself*
    • "It's time to contain the China virus!"Explanation
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The noise of the mini godzillas saying after kissing a figure as a sign of Jobby's approval, bonus points if it's a double or triple kiss.
