YMMV / GLOW

Go To

  • Fetish Retardant: The Housewives. See Sexy Whatever Outfit on the main page.
  • Girl-Show Ghetto: Broke out of it - it had a large amount of male fans in the 80s including one "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One match had Zelda the Brain and Major Tanya play Chess in the ring in a parody of then-contemporary US/USSR chess International Showdowns By Proxy which turned (of course) into a wrestling match after Tanya lost in a Fool’s Mate. Nowadays that combination of chess and combat feels like a sort of precursor to chessboxing.
  • Narm Charm: Little Egypt had fake blood on her leg when Dementia bit her. All the same, it got Dementia's bites over as something to worry about. By extension, Dementia helplessly chomping on air in a futile effort to bite Tina Ferrari established Ferrari's expertise as a mat wrestler.
  • Periphery Demographic: In the documentary, Lisa Moretti (Tina Ferrari) said the show proved very popular among college boys waking up from hangovers on weekends. It also developed a surprising kid fanbase despite the sex jokes.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Evil Soviets? Standard, especially for the era. Evil Soviets in squash matches? Perhaps a bit too frequent, even for this era. Evil Soviets rapping before squashes and and doing the Dance of the Seven Veils afterwards? If nothing else, memorable. Apply that chain to pretty much everything else about GLOW. Giant evil German Nazi who fights with hip attacks? Cheerleader defeated by voodoo curse that forces her to dance herself into exhaustion?
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: The show producers tried to keep the action fun, cartoonish, and family-friendly to appeal to young audiences...even though the cast of characters included axe murderers, streetwalkers, sexy farmgirls, and a woman who entered the ring naked on horseback.
