  • Fan Nickname: Prevalent enough that the fan-curated wiki has a page dedicated to compiling all the slang terms, shorthands and Reporting Names used by the playerbase:
    • Logistical jobs — driving supply trucks, manufacturing gear or collecting resources — are called "logi" for short, which can also refer to the players doing those jobs.
      • Dedicated sub-categories of logi players soon attracted their own nicknames. "Scrappers" focus on gathering tons of raw materials for other players to transport and refine. "Tech runners" or "tech maids" focus on progressing the Tech Tree by harvesting and delivering relevant resources like aluminum.
      • "Quartermasters" are logi who adopt a leadership/management role. Early on, quartermasters were vital to coordinating factories and supply chains for their factions, until crafting overhauls and the playerbase's growing average knowledge made them largely unnecessary. Nowadays, quartermaster usually refers to players who manage their faction's Tech Tree, usually from a secure back-ranks camp fed by a network of tech runners.
    • Small groups of players who sneak past the front to attack supply lines are called "partisans".
    • A "Quick Reaction/Response Force" (or QRF) are players who rapidly respond to sudden incursions or partisan banditry.
    • Players unaffiliated with any of the local Gaming Clans are referred to as "noots" (a corruption of "neutral").
    • The BF5 White Ash Flask Grenade, an anti-tank weapon used by the Wardens, is often called "booze" for its resemblance to a conventional hip flask.
    • "Shirts" for soldier supplies, named for the item's icon being a neatly-folded button shirt.
    • Colonial troops are often called "Collies" and "goblins", while Warden troops are nicknamed "blueberries" or more rarely "penguins"note .
    • The town of Saltbrook Channel has become known as "Saltingrad" for the ever-present threat of extremely nasty and drawn-out urban combat.
    • Thanks to the Scunthorpe Problem, the word "scrap" was auto-censored by the game's word filter, leading the playerbase to coin "scroop" to discuss the resource. Even after the word filter was corrected and the resource re-named, the slang term remained.
    • The Warden Balfour Falconer 250mm field mortar, a two-man weapon platform armed with the same gun as the Colonial HC-7 "Ballista" siege tank, has the mocking nickname of "Baby Ballista".
    • "To HOI4" something means to completely encircle an entrenched enemy position and cut off their supply lines, starving the defenders of resources.
    • The Gallagher Thornfall, a variation of the Outlaw tank with eight Bonesaw launchers attached to the turret, is nicknamed the "Bonelaw."
    • Ballistic rockets are commonly called "nukes" or more rarely "V2s."
    • Rambo is a derogative nickname for a specific kind of new player who grabs whatever automatic weapon is in the stockpile, overloads with ammo for it and then charges blindly toward enemy position, only to be cut down five steps in.
  • Game-Breaker: The Colonials' unique grenade, the Bomastone. It's very cheap, unlocked by default at the beginning of every war, and can be thrown incredibly far with a massive blast radius. Sure, it deals less damage than the Warden grenade and has a sharper damage falloff- but that's a small comfort when the damage is Shrapnel, meaning even the smallest brush with the Bomastone's blast (which is a bit larger than the visual indicator) will make you bleed to death if you can't find a bandage or a medic. Add the fact that Colonials have exclusive access to the Grenade Uniform which makes Grenade Spam even more viable, and it's no wonder that many Wardens don't even bother playing until the later stages of the Tech Tree.

  • Quicksand Box: It can be daunting for a new player to figure out what to do and where to go; there is no in-game direction as to what you should be doing to win the war. Especially since you start only with a pistol and a hammer, just getting a basic rifle or finding the action takes some getting used to.
