YMMV / Empire of the Ants

From the 1977 Movie:

• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: About two thirds through the film, the survivors stumble upon a battle between the black ants that have been harassing them and a second group of giant red ants. The red ants are never seen or mentioned again and don't even appear during the climax when all the black ants are killed.
• Narm: Plenty to be found. Notably in the extremely hammy opening narration about ant behavior and Pheromones.
• Special Effects Failure: While the giant puppets the characters occasional interact with are fairly effective, most of the effects shots are accomplished by poorly superimposing stock footage and having the actors react.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The majority of the main characters are jerks. It's hard not to root for the ants.

From the Book Series:

• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The book series, like with other Bernard Werber works, is quite popular in South Korea.
• Iron Woobie: 4000 always gets in trouble and has to be saved by 103683 but endures until the very end.
• Sequelitis: The second book has been well-received, the third book less so.
• Moment of Awesome: The fight against the woodpecker, that the ants manage to defeat by plunging inside its bloodstream and gnawing its brain.
