YMMV / Cupcake & Dino: General Services

Go To

  • Adorkable: Hugo. His undeniably sweet personality and timid, mild-mannered nature make him a very charming character. Also, Cupcake and Dino themselves have their moments.
  • Cult Classic: While the show has remained largely ignored by many, it retains a fiercely loyal following and a lot of critical praise, for its contagiously cheerful tone, lovable characters, playful humor, excellent visuals, and cleverly creative stories. Some have even called it one of the best Canadian and Brazilian animated works of the modern age, one on par with some of the most popular and acclaimed American cartoons.
  • Older Than They Think: This isn't the first cartoon produced between Canada and Brazil for Corus Entertainment; the 2010 preschool series My Big, Big Friend had a similar production background (albeit between different studios).
  • Periphery Demographic: Not a massive one by any means, but the series has developed quite a few fans among parents of the kids who watch the show and other adults if user reviews on IMDb and Common Sense Media, as well as what pops up on the show's Twitter account, are anything to go by.
  • Quirky Work: This show is about a dinosaur and a cupcake who are brothers that work in odd job gigs where anything can happen. Their grandma is a piece of steak, their uncle is a human, and everyone else in the show is pretty much anything you can imagine. Does this sound like a regular kids' cartoon to you?
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: While Cupcake & Dino has generally been well-received (7.8 on IMDb based on 500 reviews as of June 2021 and 4/5 on Common Sense Media), there are those who dismiss the show as little more than an imitator of Breadwinners and Pickle and Peanut, using both series' much-maligned reputation as an excuse to label the series being equally terrible.
  • Too Good to Last: Although very well-received by critics (including an inclusion as one of the best TV shows of 2018 by The New York Times) and viewers (being one of the most watched children's series of 2019), Cupcake & Dino: General Services only ran for a mere 26 episodes, as is common for most Canadian Content series.
