YMMV / Cryptoland

Go To

  • Bile Fascination: The presentation has drawn in infinitely more viewers who want to behold the Narm of the animated short film than people actually interested in the Cryptoland pitch.
  • Memetic Molester: A lot of people have joked how Connie the Coin's animation unintentionally makes him out to be more perverted then intentioned, from him looming over Christopher with a suggestive expression when he's in the De-Stress Room, to where his idea to get a hardware wallet from a seagull is to try to seduce it in a bird costume.
Thought Slime: ...is the seagull going to fuck the bitcoin? Is that the implication I am meant to take from this?
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Don't be shy, go ahead and try!"Explanation
    • "CRYPTO IS IN MY CHROMOSOME"Explanation
    • Many of the animation errors have become memes in and of themselves, notably the spontaneously moving plants, Bianca's arm hideously luxating itself when she hands Christopher the fork (especially coupled with Christopher's Bad "Bad Acting" in response), and the Black Comedy invoked by numerous instances of the personal golf carts in the background barreling directly toward groups of of people before the camera cuts to the next shot.
    • "Mental maturity should be more than enough! ;)"Explanation
  • So Bad, It's Good: Between the stilted and janky animation, stolen sound effects and music tracks, inconsistent voice acting, and self-referential jokes that inadvertently undermine the video's purpose, the Cryptoland presentation has become somewhat of an ironic Cult Classic for the humor in its utter ridiculousness and how catastrophically it fell flat in its attempt to win over the general public. In fact, despite trying so hard to be sincere, many have argued it works much better as a satirical send-up of the cryptocurrency community.
  • Special Effects Failure: The animation in general is a technical Lambo-wreck (even though presenters claimed that former Pixar and/or other first-rate animation studio employees worked on it) and thus trying to list every single error would be nothing short of Sisyphean, but what really sticks out are the sheer amount of assets that are just flat 2D pictures that characters regularly clip through or walk over; from the Vladimir Club building to literally the entire island in the opening scene on the pier. Nearly every 3D asset is also taken from other sources, the main male model being used for Christopher, the waiter and some background parts. Connie also has an issue where his arms appear and disappear at random due to the shoddy rendering of the short.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The latter portion of the musical number in the middle of the animation has a structure and instrumentation taken right out of "You're The One I Want" and "Prince Ali."
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Following the cryptocurrency bubble's calamitous collapse at the end of 2022 and the entire fervor Cryptoland sought to capitalize on along with it, many now regard the short-film as a perfect time capsule of the crypto bubble due to its exhaustive celebration of the crypto community's internal culture, now-ironic optimism, and ultimate failure to deliver being a microcosm of the whole craze.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley:
    • Connie's entire design is very unnerving, from the unintended Body Horror of his metallic skin creasing into menacing Dreamworks Faces to the white strips and pink slab forming his cartoony teeth and tongue being completely unhidden in the hollow cavity of his mouth. The constant Extreme Close-Up camera angles don't help matters...
    • Speaking of extremely uncomfortable closeups, the camera following the pizza into Christopher's mouth as he looks on dead-eyed and unblinking is nothing short of Nightmare Fuel.
    • The talking Lamborghini is similarly distressing, made worse by the extremely unnatural way its mouth contorts and the dead gaze of its headlights.
    • None of the human characters are immune, as beyond many looking unnervingly identical to each other and some being disturbingly devoid of eyebrows or hair, their bodies constantly jitter erratically (such as when Bianca hands Chris the fork) or their limbs completely dislocate themselves (like the waitress in the Pyramid whose neck slinks off completely separate from her body or Christopher's arms rapidly snapping in and out of place when first talking to Connie).
