* BetterThanCanon: Plenty of fans have declared this fic to have handled the infamous LoveTriangle between Courtney, Duncan and Gwen better than ''World Tour'' did.

This is a list of subjective tropes for the fanfic ''Fanfic/CandyForYourThoughts''.

** Duncan's NoHoldsBarredBeatdown of Alejandro and his WorldOfCardboardSpeech are immensely gratifying as a representation of Duncan's redemption and as Alejandro's "punishment" for everything he has done in ''World Tour'' (both canonically and in the fic).

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Several characters become much more likeable than in canon:
** Owen is possibly the biggest example of this trope. How did he go from being a CreatorsPet to almost an EnsembleDarkhorse? By downplaying or downright removing his negative traits (the grossout, being a DirtyCoward, the CharacterShilling, and being a {{spotlight steal|ingSquad}}er), focusing on his positive ones (his cheerfulness, his friendliness, his optimism, and his sense of fun and enthusiasm), having him mostly as a supporting character and comic relief rather than a main character, and having his humor coming from his goofy childlike naivety and his OddFriendship with Noah rather than ToiletHumor. In fact, if it wasn't for Alien Cody, he would have been the funniest character of the story.
** Duncan is rather well received in this story, even by people who doesn't like him, mostly because he actually gets to face the consequences of his actions (namely cheating on Courtney), and leads to lots of CharacterDevelopment.

* MoralEventHorizon: Alejandro crosses this in the final chapter when he tries to kill Duncan with his own pocket knife and subverts MyGoWhatHaveIDone when he stabs Duncan only to then reject the feelings of shock and guilt from going too far.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Most of the lyrics are pretty good. Highlights include Owen and Noah's musical duet in Niagara Falls, Izzy's shipping song (which doubles as a SugarWiki/FunnyMoment), the love song in the finale, and the TriumphantReprise of "Come Fly with Us" in the epilogue.
