YMMV / Boris (2007)

Go To

  • Anvilicious: When Lopez tells Renè that Medical Dimension was born to fail and sabotage any attempt at a quality television in Italy, there's quite a long speech about how producers don't want to make anything new and the audience doesn't really care about it.
  • Awesome Music:
  • Cult Classic: Despite originally airing on a limited-reach satellite TV channel, Boris quickly gained a dedicated fanbase thanks to word of mouth, Memetic Mutation and even digital piracy, making it one of the most quoted series in Italy. It experienced a new surge in popularity in 2020 when it was added to Netflix. The author of the series have even admitted that the show is much more popular 10 years later than when it first aired.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Out of the minor characters, Mariano and Glauco are the most popular, due to the performance of their actors. Mariano is also all kinds of awesome.
    • The screenwriters appear in just a few scenes (usually making brief cameo appearances at best), but all of their scenes are among the most iconic and memetic ones. It's probably the reason why they are Promoted to Opening Titles in season 3 and get their own A Day in the Limelight in the season 3 finale.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the movie (released in 2011), some characters are shooting a film called "Christmas in Space", as it's supposed to be an exaggerated parody of other infamous Christmas movies like "Christmas in India", "Christmas in Miami", "Christmas in South Africa" etc. Then comes the 2020 Christmas movie... "Holiday on Mars".
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Tuscans have ruined this country."Explanation
    • "We are fucking done with quality! We want shit!" Explanation
    • "Like that, all of a sudden, without reason." ("Così, de botto, senza senso.") Explanation
    • "F4 Astonished."Explanation
    • "This asshole looks in camera" Explanation
    • "What is a X+adjective? Is it physically an X or not?" Explanation
  • Narm Charm: The musical number in the season 3 finale is this both-universe and out. It's a Song Parody of the old summer hit "Three words" and a ridiculously cheesy Big-Lipped Alligator Moment with Stanis, Cristina and Karin singing and dancing. Still very catchy, and everyone in the troupe is enjoying it, just like the viewers.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: Arianna's arc of being revealed as a right-wing supporter only exists to create additional tension in her relationship with Alessandro in the early episodes of Season 3, and it's later replaced by the more organic subplot of Alessandro's second job. Arianna's political sympathies are only brought up a couple of times later on for a quick gag or two.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Stanis is portrayed as an outright Jerkass in the most over-the-top way possible and barely has any nice/human moments at all. Even his actor Pietro Sermonti stated that he's a terrible person and that nobody should be like him in real life. However, he's a huge fan favorite, with many fans finding him likable because he's passionate about his work (unlike the other deadbeat characters) and claiming that he's just a naive, insecure guy behind his narcissism.
  • The Woobie:
    • Alessandro and Lorenzo, the two "slave" interns who get the worst treatment and never get respect.
    • René, especially in season 3 and the movie. No matter how much he tries, Hard Work Hardly Works and he's forced to put up with people like Stanis and Corinna all the time. There are also some scenes where it's clear that he's considered a loser and he's a Jaded Washout who hates himself. Being a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, his many flaws are evident but he's usually portrayed sympathetically, so he can fall between The Woobie and Jerkass Woobie.
    • The nice old lady from "Buona festa del Grazie", especially in the Downer Ending when she finds her house destroyed by the crew. They give her a fake number and get away with it.
