  • Alternative Character Interpretation: How much of Gene's breakdown to Frank is real? It's pretty clear at the start that he's putting on a show just to distract him, but as he goes on and names off real things that have happened to him to demonstrate how lonely he is, he starts to look less like he's acting and instead making himself actually sad upon realizing that he really is all alone and could die tomorrow without anyone caring. He even pauses when bringing up that his brother is dead, possibly having brought his unresolved feelings towards Chuck to the surface briefly.
    • Even after he composes himself and leaves Frank's office, he looks visibly shaken. Whether it's because of him realizing the weight of everything he's just said, or is still stressed over how close the robbery was to failing because of Jeff's fall, is up to the viewer.
    • For what it's worth, the writer said he was using truth to manipulate, but it also bought up a lot of buried feelings for him.
  • I Knew It!: The moment this episode's title was announced, fans correctly predicted that it would mark the point the 2002-04 timeline was left behind completely, since it breaks the "X and Y" Idiosyncratic Episode Naming convention all the previous episodes this season had.
  • Nausea Fuel: A good deal of the camera work during Gene's interactions with Frank focus uncomfortably up-close on his mouth as he devours the cinnamon rolls he's distracted with. The audible chewing and slurping noises don't help either.
  • Tainted by the Preview: Den Of Geek discussed how AMC announcing Walt and Jesse appearing made Breaking Bad fans het up for this episode, only to be faced with a Character Focus episode for Gene.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Though it happened for reasons outside of creators' control, many fans expressed their disappointment with the recast of Jeff's actor in this episode.
    • The original Jeff was a sleazy, intimidating character who genuinely perturbed Gene to the point where he was considering extraction. None of that was apparent in this episode, with Jeff having a perpetual deer-in-headlights look as he's outclassed by Gene at every turn.
    • On the other hand, the original Jeff scene showed the character to also be something of a Saul fanboy, with the real threat indicated as being the muscle he brings (revealed in the next episode to have a conscience to him). The real problem is that the intended reaction of triumph and then dread that was meant to occur with Gene's victory and control over Jeff isn't sold as well when the character change is immediately obvious with the introduction of a new actor
