YMMV / Barbie as the Princess and the Popstar

Go To

  • Nausea Fuel: The visuals for "Look How High We Can Fly" can induce vertigo in more sensitive people.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: People who have an attachment to Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper generally aren't a fan of the updated premise, especially with this film's rendition of "To Be a Princess", which turned a classically Broadway number about the overwhelming challenge of being a princess into a pop song about the two leads coaching each other while significantly glamorizing their respective work lives.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: This can also be applied to the film due to it being a modernized version of Princess and the Pauper.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • The audience is meant to sympathize with Tori over how she struggles with her princess duties and living under the thumb of her tyrannical aunt; however, given what we see in the film (she prefers to sneak off during an important gathering and has apparently pulled several pranks at previous diplomatic events), she comes off more as a Royal Brat whose aunt struggles to keep her in line.
    • Keira's also this to a lesser extent. Again, we're supposed to sympathize with her being trapped in her current lifestyle; however, given her seeming refusal to simply tell her manager and record label that she's currently unable to come up with new songs, it can feel more like she brought her current stress on herself.
