YMMV / ANNO: Mutationem

Go To

  • Annoying Video Game Helper: If you haven't spent any Grombitz to upgrade Ann's Skills And Perks, Ayane will frequently chime in to remind that you possess enough to gain new skills and stats enhancements.
  • Anti-Climax Boss: The Amok fight isn't free, but it's much easier than either of the two before it. Even with most of her power still sealed, it's surprising that this particular character doesn't put up a better fight.
  • Audience-Alienating Ending: The original ending divided a lot of fans, some reviews going so far as to say it ruined the experience. Some complain that the Circle Consortium winning and basically enslaving Ann at the end of the game is an unsatisfying and left-field way to end the game, and others complain that the entire late game introduces too many elements and new characters then abruptly ends the game when so much was left unexplored, and others (most of whom are unaware about that game being originally part of the SCP universe until it was changed) that the sudden shift into the paranormal and supernatural elements from a rather normal Cyberpunk series was just too dramatic of a genre shift. Fortunately, the ending has been completely revamped to address the aforementioned complaints.
  • Complete Monster: Amok is a being from the Hinterland who lives to sadistically slaughter all in her path. Convincing a young Ann Flores to act as her covenant for her eventual reawakening, Amok hopes to be freed from her domain so that she can destroy every human on Earth. Should Ann not side with Dr. G, Amok takes advantage of Ann's despair over her brother Ryan's death to allow her to possess her, laying waste to all of Skopp City before initiating Earth's destruction.
  • Les Yay: Ann and Ayane have a pretty ambiguous relationship. Ayane has incredible and frequent shows of physical and emotional affection toward Ann, such as hugging Ann, calling her "Darling", and Ayane explicitly saying she wants a kiss from Ann. Ann, for the most part, rejects or barely tolerates these, likely due to how tiring Ayane's bubbly personality can be to a calm, cool person like her. However, during the moments where Ayane is more subdued, Ann does engage in affectionate gestures, most prominently resting in Ayane's lap and gently caressing her cheek while recovering from an episode of Entanglelitus. And though Ayane is the one who pushes Ann to Bridal Carry her in the revised ending, with Ann expressing annoyance as usual, she continues to carry Ayane even after Ayane falls asleep in her arms and looks at her resting form quite fondly. Not helping the ambiguity is a conversation where Ann tells Ayane to stop calling her "Darling", upon which Ayane asks if she can call Ann "Baby", "Honey", or "Lover."
  • That One Achievement: "Supreme Bartender Ann"; by completing The Bartender mini-game on its highest difficulty, which requires doing perfect on each customer for a score over 700 and precise timing makes it a challenge. It doesn't help that the minigame itself is a test of speed, reflexes, and button-mashing skills in a game of relatively lenient action combat.
