Little Quacker is a 1950 Tom and Jerry cartoon directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. It is notable for being the debut of Quacker the duckling, who would later go on to be a recurring character in the franchise.

A mother duck living in the countryside goes out to swim in a pond, leaving behind her single egg in the nest. Tom, who is in the mood for breakfast, snatches the egg and takes it into the kitchen to cook it, but instead of white and yolk, the egg reveals a living and breathing duckling named Quacker. Initially irritated, Tom decides to go with roast duck instead and tries to kill the duckling, who escapes and befriends Jerry. Soon, Quacker and Jerry try to escape Tom and search for the former's mother.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Pervert: Tom accidentally slices up the mother duck's plumage, revealing that she is wearing a bra.
  • Action Dad: Henry, Quacker's father, does not take kindly to Tom messing with his wife and son.
  • Ash Face: Tom receives this from the little stick of dynamite swapped with his duck whistle.
  • Attack the Tail: Jerry tricks Tom into striking his own tail with the cleaver before making a run for it with Quacker.
  • Copycat Mockery: Tom spitefully mocks Quacker's mother with faux quacking after her son informs her of the cat's intentions. He later comes to regret making that mistake when Quacker's mother calls over Henry to deal with him.
  • Eats Babies: Tom tries to cook the egg that is about to hatch into Quacker, and when the duckling comes out, Tom decides to switch to making roast duck instead.
  • Evil Egg Eater: Tom establishes himself as the villain of the cartoon by stealing Mama Duck's unattended egg for breakfast.
  • Fur Is Clothing: Tom runs over Mama Duck with a lawnmower, exposing her turquoise bra and bloomers, which she quickly covers with her now robe-like feathers.
  • Hammered into the Ground: Tom tries to decapitate Jerry, who is hiding in a telephone pole, with his cleaver repeatedly. Quacker comes to the mouse's rescue by chopping the pole with an ax, narrowly missing Tom every time. Tom then eventually realizes that the pole is about to fall on him and tries to flee, but said pole lands on his head and drives him into the ground like a nail.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Quacker's Donald Duck-esque voice is barely comprehensible, yet Jerry and his mother are able to understand him just fine. Henry is also able to comprehend his wife's mostly garbled rant at Tom.
  • I Want My Mommy!: Quacker calls for his mother before Tom tries to trick him with a duck whistle.
  • Kick the Dog: Tom snatches Quacker from Mama Duck's wings just when mother and son are having a happy reuinion, and then he mocks her with faux quacking after her son informs her that the cat tried to kill him. Laser-Guided Karma soon comes for Tom in the form of Papa Duck, Henry.
  • Mama Bear: Quacker's mother isn't particularly pleased with Tom trying to kill her son, and calls in her husband, Henry, to teach him a lesson.
  • Non-Fatal Explosions: When Jerry discovers that Tom is using a duck whistle to deceive Quacker, he quickly swaps said whistle with a stick of dynamite, which explodes in Tom's face when he thinks that his duck whistle has malfunctioned.
  • Non-Mammal Mammaries: While searching for her son, Quacker's mother is run over by a lawnmower manned by Tom and loses some of her feathers in the process, revealing human-like breasts covered by a bra as well as panties covering her crotch.
  • Off with His Head!: Subverted. When Jerry walks out of his mouse hole to check for Tom, the cat swings his cleaver down on him, seemingly decapitating him. A panicked Quacker then pulls him out, and it's revealed that the cleaver only caught Jerry by his whiskers.
  • Oh, Crap!: Tom, when Henry appears.
  • Pain to the Ass: Tom sticks a rifle in a tree where Jerry and Quacker have taken refuge and sets it off. However, the rifle bends and emerges through a hole in the tree, so he ends up with a blasted bottom.
  • Papa Wolf: Henry, Quacker's father and the husband of Quacker's mother, is just as protective of his son as his wife is, and immediately proceeds to assault Tom with the lawnmower to teach him a lesson for trying to kill the little duckling.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: It's completely unintelligible, but Henry yells "He did?!" at Tom before beginning to chase him.
  • Run or Die: When Quacker's mother relays what happened to the very muscular Henry, Tom realizes he is screwed and makes a run for it. He doesn't get very far.
  • Say My Name: Quacker's mother calls over her husband, Henry, by yelling his name.
  • Shout-Out: The mother duck calling out "Henry!" is a reference to The Aldrich Family, which began every episode with Henry Aldrich's mother calling for him the same way.
  • Smashed Eggs Hatching: Expecting white and yolk, Tom cracks the egg into the pan, but instead gets a fully born Quacker. He doesn't realize it until he starts sprinkling salt and pepper on the duckling.
  • Standard Snippet: "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" is played at the beginning during the pan through the scenery.
  • Womanchild: As Quacker's mother slowly lowers herself onto the surface of the pond, she then lets out a giddy, childish laugh before taking a swim.
  • Would Hurt a Child: If Tom trying to eat Quacker wasn't enough, then chasing him and trying to kill him is.
