Go To

"You've heard of a Nuzlocke? Get ready for a Milly-locke where I just unleash Milly on an unsuspecting population and document my findings like a biologist studying an invasive species."
—The comic's summary on Tapas

Let's Play Arceus with Milly is a Pokémon fancomic written and drawn by shelbyecandraw. It can be read on DeviantArt (starting here) or on Tapas here.

It's a re-telling of Pokémon Legends: Arceus with the creator's OC Milly in place of the player character. As Milly is the human embodiment of chaos, Hilarity Ensues.

A prequel, Let's Play XY with Milly and Alix, is currently being worked on, focusing on Milly and her sister Alix getting their first Pokémon and going on an adventure in the Kalos region. You can start reading it here.

Due to the nature of this comic, unmarked spoilers for Pokémon Legends: Arceus abound.

Tropes

  • Action Girl: Milly is fully ready to fight anyone at any time, and able to take out grown men with ease.
  • Affectionate Parody: Of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, by way of putting a violent Cloudcuckoolander in the role of the protagonist.
  • All There in the Manual: Milly's full Pokémon team is shown off in this art; it also reveals their nicknames, most of which aren't mentioned in the comic.
  • A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: Uxie tries to read Milly's mind and is immediately traumatized.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Lord Ursaluna is normally not this trope. When it's being ridden by Milly, however...
  • Big Eater: In "ACTIONS", Milly is shown wolfing down a large hunk of meat.
  • Braids of Action: Milly wears her hair in two long braids and is an Action Girl.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Most of the Hisui characters quickly figure out that harassing Milly is this. Those that don't get to learn it the hard way.
  • Butt-Monkey: Melli tries to apply his usual condescending attitude to Milly and quickly becomes her favorite target as a result.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: This is Milly at her least violent, from fantasizing about stealing hats to beatboxing using the Celestica Flute.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: To put it simply, attempting to fight Milly will rarely go well.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Milly occasionally fawns over the more adorable Pokémon.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Milly constantly insults and trolls Arceus, though Arceus is just as prone to firing back. It's implied this is why she got thrown into Hisui in the first place. She also bullies it into giving her divine powers to take out Volo in the end.
  • The Dreaded: The people of Hisui come to fear Milly just as much as the wild Pokémon.
  • Facepalm: How Milly's Typhlosion reacts when she accidentally scares Gaeric off of Avalugg's Legacy.
  • Foul Medicine: Both Milly and Lord Ursaluna have this reaction when Calaba brings out her "toxi-gone" medicine.
  • Heroic BSoD: Laventon and Rei have a shared one when they discover Milly has a twin sister.
  • Hero of Another Story: Milly's twin sister Alix managed to track down Celebi offscreen and convince it to help her bring Milly back to the present.
  • Impact Silhouette: Milly opts to just ram her way into the lake caves rather than wait for Arceus to open them up, resulting in these.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Several characters — including Milly herself — outright agree with Kamado that she could have a hand in the rift above Hisui becoming unstable, given her general behavior.
  • Nightmare Face: Milly has one that combines a Cheshire Cat Grin with Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises. It's usually used to denote whenever she's about to go to town on someone.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever Milly did to piss off Arceus enough for it to throw her into Hisui in the first place.
  • Not So Above It All: Adaman usually plays the straight man to Milly's antics, but he's willing to Turn the Other Cheek when she violently assaults Melli.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Milly's reaction after she throws a balm at Lord Kleavor and it does nothing. She has a similar reaction upon facing Palkia.
    • Volo and Giratina both have this reaction upon being faced with a divinely-powered Milly.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: From what we see of Alix, she's far more sane than Milly.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Just like in the games, Kamado suspects that Milly has something to do with the frenzied Noble Pokémon. She doesn't, but given her chaotic nature, he's still right to be wary of her.
shelbyecandraw: No No, Commander, you should be concerned, just not for the reasons you're thinking.
  • Running Gag:
    • Milly plotting to steal other people's hats.
    • Milly being challenged to combat (or seeing an invitation to fight someone) and smiling, followed by a Smash Cut to her inevitable victory.
    • Milly riding into an area on Lord Ursaluna's back screaming "HERE'S MILLY!!!"
  • Seen It All: Implied with Milly's family; Alix is unsurprised to learn that Milly pissed off Arceus, and implies that their parents won't be surprised either.
  • Shipper on Deck: Milly ends up becoming one for Iscan/Palina and Adaman/Irida; attempting to get the latter two to kiss gets her beaten up.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Pretty much every character is the straight man to Milly's wise guy, though her Typhlosion plays the role most frequently.
