Danganronpa: Redemption (or Redemptionronpa for short) is a completed Danganronpa webcomic created by Barbieronpa with art by asterriix.

After her supposed death, Kaede Akamatsu wakes up in a classroom again. She's not the only one, though. Several other killers and victims from the past killing games are alive here as well. Before she can even question it, Monokuma suddenly hijacks everything and starts another Killing Game.

Can Kaede figure out the secret behind everyone's revival and beat the Kiling Game this time?

It can be found in comic form here and video form here.

All spoilers from the main series are unmarked! Read at your own risk!

This webcomic contains examples of the following tropes:

  • All Your Powers Combined: The Despair Virus gives a person the memories of the three previous masterminds, making them the Ultimate Mastermind.
  • Back from the Dead: The V3 and Trigger Happy Havoc characters are all alive even though they all died in their respective games, with the reason for the revival being one of the key questions of the series.
    • Later on subverted for the V3 cast: they were in a virtual killing game like the SDR characters. Played straight for the THH cast though: their minds were revived by Hajime and placed into the program so they could awaken.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The Despair Virus infects a participant (Angie in this case) and makes them the Ultimate Mastermind against their will.
  • Broken Tears: After learning that Chihiro slashed his own throat so that he wouldn't die, Kokichi's facade finally shatters and all he can do is break down sobbing, screaming about how much he hates the game and watching people die.
  • Breaking Old Trends: For the double murder in chapter 3, one person actually survives, meaning there is only one victim this time around.
  • Call-Back:
    • Miu's execution is meant to be a recreation of Chiaki's.
    • When the Future Foundation arrives in the final trial, each member are positioned in the seat of someone they interacted with greatly in the past: Makoto's in Sayaka's, Togami's in Kiyotaka's, Kyoko's in Chihiro's, Sonia's in Gundam's, Fuyuhiko's in Mahiru's, and Maki's in Kaito's.
  • Canon Welding: Surprisingly, this fangame gives us a way to connect the v3 universe with the main universe (thh, gd, teohpa, and udg) as that, after managing to stop Junko's forces for good, there were other groups like Team Danganronpa who decide to continue the killing games after Junko's gone, using the Neo World Program to host their own killing games, and after the stunt Shuichi and the others made at the 53rd season, some remnants decided to host one last game using the victims from the previous games to stop the Future Foundation. As well, both Shuichi, Maki and Himiko joined the Future Foundation to help the victims of their killing game to have one chance of returning back too.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Kiyotaka in Mondo’s arms.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After all the crap everyone goes through, they manage to defeat the Despair Virus, escape the simulation and even those that died in the game wake up.
  • Final First Hug: Miu gives one to Chihiro and Kii-bo before she is executed in case 4.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Kokichi ultimately decides to stay behind in the program to ensure the Despair Virus doesn't escape
  • Heroic Suicide: After Chihiro was pushed into a trap by Kokichi, he slashed his own throat so the Ultimate Supreme Leader wouldn’t become the blackened.
  • Murder by Mistake: The trap Miu made was meant for Rantaro, but Kiyotaka was killed by it instead.
  • Mythology Gag: The Monokubs' execution is a clear Shout-Out to Super Mario Bros., which is what would've been Chihiro's unused execution.
  • Once More, with Clarity: Kaede discovers Shuichi was the one talking to her in her dreams and he's taken away from an unknown force, which Kaede assumes was the mastermind and their minions. It's later revealed it's not the case: Shuichi was trying to enter the simulation by force and the Future Foundation had to stop him due to the risks it could cause.
  • Ship Tease: Kaede and Rantaro have tons of chemistry, which Kokichi even points out.
  • Shout-Out: When Kokichi learns that all the other redemption programs went perfectly fine and that theirs was the only one that got turned into a killing game, he complains that they got to play Total Drama Island while they were stuck in the killing game.
  • Sympathetic Murderer: All Killers’ motives beside the first one are these:
    • Mukuro wanted to make sure no one else died
    • Sayaka thought Kokichi was the Mastermind and tried to kill him, only for Gundam to try and interfere, forcing her to kill him.
    • Miu concluded that Rantaro was the traitor and tried to kill him with a trap, only for Kiyotaka to fall victim to it instead.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Leon starts wearing Sayaka’s ribbon on his wrist following her execution
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: The Despair Virus can freely change faces from the three masterminds to previous Killing Game participants.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 5 ends with a video that finally explains what is going on: Team Danganronpa is actually a group of people who wanted to continue Junko’s legacy and started hosting killing games in VR simulations similar to the Neo World Program. Shuichi was ultimately able to stop Team Danganronpa, but the ones who had died during the game still remained unconscious. So, he and the other survivors decided to go to the Future Foundation hoping that they can help wake the others up. Together, they created “Project Rebirth”, another VR program that could wake the victims and killers. Makoto also decided to put some of the deceased of his killing game into the program to give them a second chance they deserved with members of Class 77-B as moderators. However, the remnants of Team Danganronpa caught wind of this plan and decided to hijack it. Using Rantaro as a sort of virus, they were able to change the simulation into another killing game. The video also says this: the rest of the Future Foundation, Class 77-B, and the V3 survivors are all dead, so there’s nothing out there for the remaining participants.
  • Wham Shot: The reveal of who Kaede’s been talking to when she falls asleep: it’s Shuichi.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: The epilogue skips to a year later to reveal how everyone is doing
    • Leon has started a music career and does collabs with Kaede.
    • Mondo has started a furniture store.
    • Thanks to Hajime, the Despair Virus was purged from the other participants in the game and they all get to wake up, leading to some sweet reunions.
    • Rantaro has finally found a lead on his sister, and Kaede decides to help him look for her.
