My Old Buddy is drama/supernatural machinima series created using The Sims 2 by YouTube user TheMixedBagOfWhat
. It premiered on December 27, 2014. It follows the story of a senior in high-school who makes a deal with the devil, not knowing he would transform into a human to pose as her friend, though this quickly turns against him since he often finds she is tiring to hang out with. Each episode can range from 10-30 minutes and has a rather inconsistent upload schedule, ranging from a year to a few months. The first episode can be found here.
The series has received little popularity within The Sims machinima community, but those who have seen it praise it for its unique concept and emotional writing.
My Old Buddy contains examples of:
- Abusive Parents: Implied of Amy's parents by not giving her treatment of her mental illness and pushing her to her limits.
- Berserk Button: Calling Skye names for being autistic will make Rochelle and Levi mad and upset Skye.
- The Bully: Of Rochelle. Rochelle is known to be verbally and physically abusive of her peers, even close friends.
- The Chessmaster: Levi considering he has to fit in, so he often uses demonic powers to manipulate very minor things such as: The school’s attendance system. Possessing Skye to hide from her father.
- Drugs Are Bad: Sergio is seen sneaking behind the Ronaldo Café to buy weed in secret. The dealer is Skye’s father, Stan.
- Emancipated Child: Dwayne inexplicably lives by himself at 18 even though he only works part-time at a movie theater at $8 an hour.
- Hollywood New England: The story is set in New Hampshire.
- Missing Mom: Skye’s mother, who died two years before the series takes place.
- Satan Is Good: Levi/Satan. Though still rude, he has a soft spot for Skye and Rochelle.
- Successful Sibling Syndrome: Sergio’s eldest sister. He’s known as his family’s “fuck up son”.
