Proletariat liberty!

Isabelle Ruins Everything is a Flash-animated cartoon written and animated by Max Gilardi, with additional 3D modeling by Esther Nho, and voices by Gilardi, Catherine Wayne, and Mark Fischbach.

After a year-long absence to participate in a fighting tournament, the Mayor returns to the town of Animal Crossing: New Leaf to find that his trusty assistant Isabelle has, to put it bluntly, made a huge mess of things. It's up to him to set them right.

It can be watched here.

Isabelle Ruins Everything contains examples of:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: The Mayor gets everyone to forget about the protest by pulling out a butterfly from his pocket and telling them to "go get it."
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Marina sets fire to a crucified effigy of the Mayor right outside his office window.
  • Conspicuous CG: In the wide-scale crowd shot of the Mayor walking through the barricade to Town Hall, the villagers are 3D-modeled.
  • Crowbar Combatant: At the end of the short, the Mayor looks out the window of his house to witness Mr. Game & Watch destroying his mailbox with a crowbar.
  • Dirty Communists: In the Mayor's absence, Isabelle turned the town into a communist dystopia. First it started with taking peaches from villagers who had too many and giving them to villagers who didn't have any at all, then taking everyone's slingshots away, forcing Apollo to be a policeman, putting Cyrus in jail because he said he didn't like what Isabelle was doing...
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Isabelle put Cyrus in jail because he didn't approve of what she was doing to the town. Reese didn't appreciate her husband being sent to jail, so she was sent to jail too. Apparently, several other villagers followed them. (And the town didn't even have a jail before that, so Isabelle had to threaten the villagers into helping build one.)
  • Easily Forgiven: The Mayor forgives Isabelle for messing up the town because he knows she was just trying to help. Likewise, the residents forget all about the protest after the Mayor distracts them with a butterfly.
  • The Ghost: Reese, Cyrus, and Booker do not appear, but Isabelle mentions that she put the former two in jail for not liking her new policies and fired the latter from his job as a cop for being overweight.
  • Mathematician's Answer:
Mayor: Now, do you wanna tell me why everyone's acting like a bunch of animals?
    Isabelle: They are animals, sir.
    Mayor: Don’t be a wiseass.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Everyone is furious at the Mayor for the town having turned into a communist hellhole, even though it was entirely Isabelle's doing.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Isabelle finished constructing the fountain commissioned by the Mayor, but he's unsettled by the fact that it features a naked statue of him.
  • Police Brutality: Punchy yells "You son of a bitch!" and charges at the Mayor, and gets beaten senseless by two police officers after jumping the barrier separating the Mayor from the crowd. When we see him later, he has a bloody nose, black eye and missing teeth.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Isabelle, rather appropriately, makes this expression while the Mayor is trying to calm down the angry crowd.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: The Mayor has this reaction to Mr. Game & Watch turning into a giant octopus.
  • Shown Their Work: All of the characters in the crowd are actual villagers from the games, rather than generic Super-Deformed animals.
  • Single Tear: Isabelle sheds one near the end of the short while kneeling before her house's portrait of Karl Marx, flanked by red banners with an emblem of a crossed axe and fishing pole.
    Isabelle: Someday, Karl...someday...
  • Stealth Pun: Isabelle's house contains a portrait of Karl Marx with dog ears and nose. Karl Barx, if you will.
  • Sugar Apocalypse: Without the Mayor, the cheery town of Animal Crossing devolved into a communist hellhole.
  • Take That!: Isabelle taking everybody's slingshots away may be one to gun-control policies.
Isabelle: I figured that if nobody has a slingshot, nobody will get hurt!
  • This Means Warpaint: When the Mayor encounters Isabelle, she's wearing warpaint, has donned a camouflage headband and is sharpening a primitive spear to defend herself from the furious villagers.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: The short opens with the Mayor's path to Town Hall surrounded by a crowd of angry villagers, bearing torches, shouting and waving signs that say "Proletariat Liberty".
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Played for laughs when a squirrel kid shows the Mayor the burning torch he made for the protest.
Squirrel kid: Look, Mr. Mayor! I made my fire all by myself!
Mayor: Wow, you did! That is so impressive. You made a big boy fire, didn't you?
Squirrel kid: I made fire like a big boy. (walks off)
