Freedom Fighters is a sprite animation series made by user MartanisIV. Inspired by Super Mario Bros. Z, the series serves as a Crossover between Sonic the Hedgehog and Freedom Planet.

After invading Eggman's base, Infinite managed to crush his forces and defeat Sonic and his friends. Desiring to take powers of the Chaos Emeralds for himself, he ignores Eggman's warnings and opens the storage where the doctor stored all Emeralds in. However, when he tried to collect them, the conflicting energies of the Emeralds and his Phantom Ruby tore a rift in space and time, sending Sonic, Tails, Amy, Shadow, Eggman, and Infinite himself into the distant world of Avalice. Their sudden appearance brings attention of the native beings, including our heroines Lilac, Carol and Milla, who arrived just in time to save the heroes from the disastrous ambush by the remnants of Brevon's robotic forces. Meanwhile, Infinite senses a new source of power in the world and seeks to harness it for his own means.

And the adventure begins...

The series currently consists of two episodes, and can be found on MartanisIV's YouTube channel.

The series has examples of:

  • Ax-Crazy: Per usual for him, Infinite is not right in his head, gleefully relishing in brutality and violence he partakes in whenever he clashes with his enemies.
  • Big Bad: Infinite is the main antagonist of the series, being the one who sent the heroes into Avalice in the first place and desiring to gain unlimited power to become unstoppable and crush the Resistance on Sonic's world.
  • Big Damn Heroes: After the Mecha-Mooks of Brevon's former army surround the heroes, with Sonic, Tails and Amy knocked out, Eggman left defenseless, and Shadow nowhere to be seen, everything seems hopeless for them. Fortunately Lilac and her friends arrive just in time to demolish the robots, saving the group.
  • Butt-Monkey: Eggman tends to receive the short end of the stick, with him frequently shown to be unable to handle himself in combat and being on the receiving end of comedic slapstick such as bonking his head on the door frame on his way out and falling down from Lilac's Treehouse after failing to climb down the stairs. Plus, there's Sonic and co. making fun of him and bringing up his constant lack of successes in conquering their world.
  • Combination Attack: At the climax of Sonic and Lilac's fight against the empowered Shade Trooper in Episode 2, the two end up performing a powerful spinning charge attack that appears to be a combination of Sonic's Spin Dash and Lilac's Dragon Boost, delivering a blow so powerful it not only successfully destroys the energy shield around the Shade Trooper, but also knocks the power out of it.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: At the beginning of the Episode 2, Infinite ends up in a clash with Spade, with his Virtual-Reality Warper powers allowing him to overpower and brutalize Spade. Despite this, Spade still managed to land some good hits on Infinite, and even briefly managed to negate his powers, albeit it still didn't amount to much in the end.
  • Don't Touch It, You Idiot!: Played for drama. In the beginning Eggman begs Infinite not to take the Chaos Emeralds, as there is no telling what could happen if he combines their power with the Phantom Ruby. Naturally, Infinite doesn’t listen, and the heroes, Eggman and Infinite get sent to Avalice.
  • Enemy Mine: After being sent to Avalice, Eggman proposes a ceasefire to Sonic and his friends until they find a way back to Sonic's world.
  • Fade Around the Eyes: The Stinger for the first episode ends with a shot of Infinite staring at the camera as the screen fades, leaving behind only his sole visible red eye.
  • First-Episode Twist: Infinite's reveal as the Big Bad in The Stinger to the first episode is treated as a spoiler, as all shots prior tried to obscure his identity. However, the previews to the upcoming second episode don't even try to hide the spoiler, outright confirming Infinite as the main villain.
  • Not Me This Time: When Brevon's Mecha-Mooks surround the heroes, Amy asks Eggman do they happen to be his robots, only for terrified Eggman to clarify that he never saw robots like these in his life before.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: In stark contrast to her previous Inspector Javert tendencies in Freedom Planet, when Neera Li came over to Lilac's Treehouse, searching for Sonic and his friends, she was quite reasonable and understanding, willing to pardon Lilac and her friends for breaking the "stay in your homes" rule, understanding their decision to save Sonic and his friends and choosing to trust their judge of character, and displaying no hostility to them afterwards, as soon as the initial misunderstandings were cleared up. She even was willing to forgive Amy striking her in the head with a hammer, understanding that they were simply being cautious due to being trapped in another world.
  • The Stinger: Both the first and the second episodes feature post-credits scenes:
    • The first episode ends with Infinite being revealed as the main villain after being obscured by the silhouette.
    • The second episode, meanwhile, ends with Prince Dail seeking to have the visitors from Sonic's world brought to him for mysterious reasons, with Spade bringing Shadow to him.
  • Trapped in Another World: Thanks to the clash between energies of Chaos Emeralds and Infinite's Phantom Ruby tearing a rift between worlds, Sonic, Tails, Amy, Shadow, Eggman, and Infinite himself get sent from Sonic's world to Avalice, with no idea how to get back home.
