    Pre-release theories
This movie will serve as a Cynicism Catalyst for John.
John is obviously not happy about the organisation being a scheme to defraud the most vulnerable. So much, it may just make him think that more and more people are just as bad. Might explain why his traps and games become more and more twisted as the films go on.

How the "eye cross trap" on the poster will work
The poster shows a guy in a trap that has plastic tubes funnelling into his eyes in an "X" pattern. But how will it work, and why is he in the trap to begin with? Here's some ideas:
  • He's in the trap because he has witnessed the scam and chose to turn a blind eye to it (much like the "see no evil" trap from Saw 3D).
  • When the trap activates, it will:
    • Funnel some kind of nasty substance into his eyes (maybe acid, bleach, or even some kind of insect).
    • Vacuum his eyes out of his head. (Confirmed)

The guy in the poster trap has nothing to do with the medical scam plot
Just as previous films had one-off traps before the main horror began (Death Mask in II, Classroom Trap in III, Pound of Flesh in VI), this poor sod earned Jigsaw's wrath for a completely different crime. Note how in the trailer, the four people involved in the medical conspiracy look nothing like the person on the poster. When the trap is glimpsed in said trailer, it seems to be another character.

Had the treatment worked, John would have put a stop to his games
He'll start the film seriously considering abandoning his work, but his experiences will serve to fully convince him that his work is necessary.
  • Strongly implied: John is shown throwing away a sketch for one of his future traps when he believes the treatment has cured him, but quickly returns to his old ways once he discovers the scam.

One of the con artists was tricked or coerced into the scam

There will be no survivors from the tests
In Saw II, the police still don't know about Jigsaw's name until they break into John Kramer's hideout. If anyone survived the tests from this film, they would have ratted John out to the authorities. Unless maybe John's tests scare them enough to keep quiet.
  • Alternately, the scammers will have wiped the records of their interactions with John to conceal their own fraudulent activities, and/or John used a false name when he applied for treatment to avoid losing his health insurance back in the U.S. Any survivors won't want to come forward for fear of having their own criminal con game exposed. Either way, the Mexican authorities will be put at a disadvantage in finding any connection between these events and an as-yet-obscure American serial killer.
  • Half Confirmed: The sole survivor is Cecilia, but she's left locked in a room filled with poisonous gas with only one airway to breath through. Her chances of escaping are slim at best.
    • Partly correct. Strong focus is placed on Diego having survived his test, and having received medical care. In all likelihood, there would be one sole survivor, that being Diego himself.

The fact that the experimental treatment was a scam is why William Easton was nearly spared in Saw VI
William had the absolute best survival odds of any "protagonist" character in the franchise. The returning director from Saw 6 is a signal of continuity between those movies and will reveal that Kramer actually wasn't mad about William denying him health coverage, because he was totally right about the shady surgery. Saw X may have a throwaway line that suggests John always planned to go easy on him and fully expected his trap gauntlet would convince the family to forgive him as John had already forgiven him.

Assuming it's the first trap of the movie, the guy in the "eye cross trap" will not survive.
Aside from the first, fourth and eighth movies, every Saw movie opens with a trap where at least one person dies (and if they're the only person in the trap, they always die): the guy in the Venus Fly Trap, the guy in the Classroom Trap, the guy in the Pendulum Trap, one of the predatory lenders in the Scale Trap, the girl in the Love Triangle Trap and the guy in the Subway Trap. If the film opens with the trap seen on the poster, the guy will die, just like the other people in the opening trap of each movie.
  • Half Confirmed. He doesn't survive the Trap, but the scene takes place in John's imagination

Kramer's identity as Jigsaw will become known to the cops.
In the first film, nobody knows who Jigsaw is: with Detective David Tapp suspecting Dr. Lawrence Gordon, while Gordon himself and Adam assume from circumstantial evidence that Zep's the guy. note  In the second film, the police appear to have a clearer idea on Kramer's identity. Thus, something happens in this interquel that reveals Kramer as Jigsaw and explains why he's in hiding at the beginning of Saw II.

Jeff Denlon's game will be referenced throughout the film.
John is seen sketching "The Rack" during the trailer, so maybe he is making some research on Jeff Denlon and those involved in his game before temporarily putting these plans on hold to deal with The Pederson Project's scammers.

Mark Hoffman, Lawrence Gordon and Logan Nelson will all appear in the film.
Amanda is coming back for this film, so why not bringing Hoffman, Gordon and Nelson back as well? It's speculated that the detective speaking in the trailer is none other than Costas Mandylor, and while Cary Elwes and Matt Passmore aren't confirmed to be returning, involving Gordon and Nelson in the game would make sense given how many of the traps are of medical nature. Plus, including Nelson would help to tie-in Jigsaw with the original films and confirm if Logan was aware of John's other apprentices or not.
  • Confirmed only for Hoffman, other two are Jossed.

Valentina's test is rigged.
Amanda rigs Valentina's test, leading John to realize that she is unfit to continue his legacy and thus start his plans to test her in Saw III.

Obi Tate will appear.
In Saw II, Obi was one of Jigsaw's accomplices but their association was never fully explained even though there were rumors that it would be explored in Saw IV, so why not maybe ending this film with Jigsaw hiring Obi to capture all of the Nerve Gas House victims?

There will be scenes that canonically take place after Saw 3D
The tagline on one of the posters states that "The 10th chapter "cuts through time". Since Saw X has been confirmed to be almost two hours long, maybe the main game will be over about 90 minutes in, and the remaining half an hour or so is an epilogue to the events of 3D.
  • Jossed.

    Post-release theories
Cecelia and her father Finn have a rocky relationship
Finn is a benevolent doctor with a wicked daughter. She hates her father so much that she will go as far as to destroy his name and legacy.

Dr. Finn Pederson is Evilerthan Thou
Cecelia is a victim of his abuse. It would explain her villainy.

Henry died, but John was so disgusted by him for his part in the scam that he had his body disposed of elsewhere instead of leaving it in the bathroom
As the sequels that chronologically follow this film show, the only body to join Adam's and Zep's in the bathroom is Xavier in Saw II.

There was no game for Henry. John wanted him dead
Notice the trap went straight to cutting him immediately, there were no instructions on how to beat it.

Cecilia Pederson isn't really Finn Pederson's daughter.
This is something I was theorising as I was leaving the theatre. Over the course of the film we never get solid evidence that Cecilia is really Dr. Pederson's daughter. I don't really know how much prestiged Dr. Pederson is in-universe, but she's a scammer, she could have lied about it too to make herself seem more credible to her victims. We also never see Finn and Cecilia interacting, nor we see Finn in person outside of the videos in the Pederson Project's website.
