This is something I was theorising as I was leaving the theatre. Over the course of the film we never get solid evidence that Cecilia is really Dr. Pederson's daughter. I don't really know how much prestiged Dr. Pederson is in-universe, but she's a scammer, she could have lied about it too to make herself seem more credible to her victims. We also never see Finn and Cecilia interacting, nor we see Finn in person outside of the videos in the Pederson Project's website.
