Where Japan developed its Fusion Bombs and Ballistic Missiles before year 2012.
It did cause a ton of trouble, FOR THE WORLD.
People went to a regional Thermonuclear war, which explains current world map; Alaska, Mongolia, South Korea and Taiwan all fell VICTIMS, so devasted that they either became annexed by their somehow intact neighbors or became no man’s land. On a brighter note, countries may get closer for protection.
It is why people will only care about the plague if it will end the world before everything else.
