WMG / Glitch Techs

Go To

Guesses for who Bolypius is
  • Rather than a game character, they are an Artificial Intelligence app that glitched their way into the real world. Operating on their own logic rather than a pre-programmed personality, they're able to outsmart the Glitch Techs.
  • Most likely a glitch based on the urban myth of Polybius, which was supposedly an arcade game that caused erratic and violent behavior among those who played it. There are of course many ways this could go. This may also be a glitch that was purposefully made by a secret government organization as part of the legend includes Men in Black repeatedly checking the cabinet out, leading some to believe that it was some kind of government experiment. This could suggest that this character will be the Big Bad.
  • Hinobi's specific interest in Miko and her immunity to memory wipes suggests that Bolybius probably makes use of similar technology. Maybe an early or prototype version of whatever is in the gauntlets.
  • Based on the urban legend, it is possible that Bolypius will be able to mentally affect people, and possibly even control their minds.
  • Bolypius is a Glitch that can hide itself from Glitch sensors and disguises itself as a human.

An Expy of Evil Otto will be a future Glitch
  • And they'll reference the urban legend that he caused two players to die while playing his game.

There will be a reference to Kamen Rider Ex-Aid

Segata Sanshiro will Appear as a Very Special Guest
Complete with Hiroshi Fujioka as him once again, considering the fact it would boost the Show's popularity in Japan (other than some Japanese fans of the show liking Miko).

Mitch Williams is working with the inspector from "Tutorial Mode"
  • I've only seen the first few episodes, but I think there's a possibility that Mitch is working with the woman. The ending of the episode shows her talking to a mysterious voice, who has the same voice actor as him. He was probably sent as an undercover agent to discover Hinobi secrets.

Important characters have numerical aliases
Characters who will be the center of the climax revolving around Miko's immunity will be the ones with numerical aliases, names, or even small connections to it. So far we have Hector (Five), Barbara (Seven)
  • Candidates
    • Zahra - Zero (Sounds similar)
    • Mitch - One (#1 Gamer)
    • Miko - Two (Five's P-2)
    • "Bergy" Cecil - Six (An Old Welsh and Latin name that means 'sixth')
    • Bitt - Eight (8-Bit)

Miko is better than Mitch by a big margin
Mitch Williams may be one of the best, but maybe he's not as good as we think he is.
  • In Episode 4, he was subdued repeatedly by Miko (Who may be a skilled gamer, but still inexperienced as a Glitch Tech at that time).
  • In Season 2 Episode 4, he fought the Copycat Glitch solo and failed to destroy it the first time in its weaker state.
  • Throughout the series, he Kill-Steals from others to gain EXP. If he was the best, he had no reason to do that, unless he knew he wasn't. His habit of being a griefer could be because he's trying to halt those who could potentially overtake him. Main victims include Miko and Five, who was able to surpass him (Although they had to work together, who's to say they won't improve at a faster rate than him) and Ridley, a recruit acknowledged by Miko (A potential threat to his position).
  • He and Zahra received a promotion at the same time. He and Zahra had standard Glitch Tech uniforms until 'BUDS' and they both gained upgraded ones in 'The Real Glitch Techs'. If he really did have a sizeable skill gap between the other members of the "Dream Team", he should've been first to be promoted.
  • He's dependent on heavy-damage upgrades. He frequently uses heavy-machine guns or powerful weapons against Glitches he shouldn't be. (A Possessor shorter than him and a weaker Smooze Glitch that has been shown to be easily defeated). There should be a clear difference between being 'good at the game' than 'nuking the game'.
  • While not major, in "The Real Glitch Techs" Mitch specifically orders Zahra to do "Crowd Control" despite only having one Glitch present. A pro would know that CC refers to managing groups of enemies and not a single unit. Zahra would have technically been Enabling or Setting.

The "real world" we see in the series is actually a virtual reality simulation
  • As in Five, Miko and all the humans we see in the series are hooked into a Matrix-esque virtual reality simulation/Lotus-Eater Machine for unknown reasons. (Hinobi and Bolypius are likely involved somehow.) That's why the Techs are able to erase people's memories and automatically reset any damage done within the physical world with a wave of their gauntlets — because their reality is just as artificial as the video games are. As for the glitches and A.I.s, they exist as a kind of simulation-within-a-simulation. When the game consoles malfunction and the game sprites get loose, they're just "leaking" from one level of virtual reality up to the next.
    • It's also possible that some characters like the Inspector who are higher up on the ladder are well are that they live in a VR.

Miko is a Glitch
Following Scrabbleauthor's example...
  • Miko's mind didn't get wiped, which means that she did in fact glitch, and is technically a glitch. She doesn't appear to be related to Hinobi's Glitches, though.
    • Same troper that wrote the article above here, and wow I realised that Mitch said almost the exact same thing I did... I'm wondering if the creators of Glitch Techs are reading this page.
  • She might be some secret experiment from Hinobi though, and had part of her memory wiped when done before gaining reset immunity.
  • Alternately theory of Miko being a Glitch is a red herring. Five is the real Glitch. His father is a programmer and hacker. Perhaps something happened to the original Five so his father created a clone Glitch with Five's memories. The hacking needed to do this got his father sent to jail but what he actually did is still unknown to everyone except maybe Five's grandparents.

Miko is Bugged
The similar premise of the WMG above. Except maybe Miko wasn't Glitched but has a bugged code that prevents her from being mind-wiped. The difference between a glitch and a bug is that glitches are errors in outcomes that can be fixed simply by letting the code rerun itself, while bugs are errors in coding.
  • If we assume equipping and de-equipping the gauntlet counts as logging in and logging out, then Miko would have lost her immunity.
  • Any Gauntlet scanning for Glitches with Miko nearby should have detected her. Even if they do tend to have their occasional kinks and hiccups, the Gauntlets should have detected Miko as within the vicinity because it has been scanning constantly and would be highly unlikely those errors just so happen whenever Miko is near. Unless of course, her immunity conditions aren't counted as a Glitch because the error was caused by incorrect programming, not an unexpected outcome.

All of the Glitches were created by Hinobi on purpose.
I feel like this is the most obvious WMG to make. I mean, come on. All of these Glitch-related things are just so elaborate. The fact that there are bonuses you can collect from defeating glitches, and how the glitches can modify the world and be safely contained by hunters, only to return to their games? And how Hinobi games are the only systems to have these Glitches? Thats all too elaborate and too suspicious in my eyes.
  • Not the same OP, but the reason I believe it's all intentional, is the EXP system. Gauntlet operators could simply be just containing Glitches, but they aren't, they're gaining Experience Points for it. How can a program error have its own EXP value programmed into it?
  • If Glitches need to be kept hidden and contained that badly, why do their Techs need to earn EXP to upgrade their equipment? Why not have Phil and Joan decide which techs are ready for more upgrades and which aren't? This way recruits who are already skilled such as Miko could have sooner access to the best gear available, and those who aren't top-level but still good, such as Five, wouldn't start from the ground up. It could be argued that the EXP gathering is proof they're ready, however, there could be techs out there like Bergy who rely solely on farming low-level ones. Or even Kill Stealers like Mitch, but without skill. If they were carefully managed, they'd know the EXP they gain isn't because they get better. Thus helping solidify that it's all an intentionally programmed game.
  • Hinobi is Crazy-Prepared for containing them. They have a large team of techs per branch and are all equipped with specialized weapons and gadgets. I wouldn't imagine they'd be able to create and supply for all that the moment they discovered the Glitches manifesting in their devices. Unless they started development for Glitch containment beforehand, then there would be a small window of time when Glitches ran amok, without Gauntlets available, leaving them open to public witnesses. They imply in the series that this has been going on since Phil was younger or even before that, so that means if someone witnessed Glitches before Gauntlets were around, everyone would be aware of it by now...but they're not. This supports the idea Hinobi created them, as they already had anti-Glitch weaponry available during or before the early Glitch incidents, not after.
  • Hinobi is well aware that their products manifest Glitches as dangerous video game monsters. They could have done the responsible thing and alert the public, but they didn't. Instead, they chose to continue sales of dangerous equipment and recruit Glitch Techs to keep the dangers of their products secret. I don't believe they made the Glitches, but I believe that their corporate Greed over doing the right thing is why they are the Big Bad

The show will have a Cerebus Syndrome.
Whatever Bolypius is, it is based on the video game, Polybius. Just click on the link to find out what Polybius is about if you don't know what it is already.

Phil's mind has been wiped repeatedly for learning things he isn't supposed to know.
Specifically he's become aware of some of Hinobi's more questionable activities and experiments. Doing things to glitches and experiments involving then that even Glitch Techs of a more flexible moral caliber wouldn't approve of. Knowing they would definitely wipe his mind he wrote the information to an oldschool not network-enabled media format and programmed Bit to be able to send him to it. It just took a lot longer then expected.

Miko is the only real person and every one else is just a hologram.

This is why every thing damaged is fixed so easy they are just repairing holograms.

Fives father is in prison for hacking into Hinobi's Network.
Specifically he was a Playful Hacker and only snooping to statisfy his own curiosity about how Hinobi was operating. Given a lot of their work was based on his own legacy code Emilio had all the workarounds needed to penetrate Hinobi's security with ease. In the process he stumbled upon something he shouldn't have seen the same thing that Phil discovered in the development labs and as a result was setup to be arrested. After resetting him Hinobi planted evidence of his hacking so they could have him tossed in prison.
  • Five mentioned that he got a Hinobi bracelet from someone. If this theory is true, then it's highly likely that his father gave it to him. His expression and how he called it "nothing special" is a little bit suspicious when you keep in mind of the way he thinks about his father.

Zahra will be a Romantic False Lead for Five in a possible Season 3
In the episode BUDS Zahra is revealed to have an insecure crush on Five. While it's never addressed again, I'm sure this will be a minor recurring subplot for Season 3 if it is made with with Zahra trying to confess or have a date with Five. However, something will happen and they will not end together by the end of the season.

The Fast Food Girl will be recruited as a Glitch Tech due to how frequently they have to mind wipe her.
The Fast Food Worker has to be constantly mind wipe, so eventually the Local Hinobi Branch might just get tired of Mind Wiping her, and decide to just try and recruit her instead solely to not have to do it anymore.Alternatively, they might just let her keep her memories (Or Forget to Wipe her memory.) and just make it an unspoken policy to just leave her be, again, just because constantly wiping her mind has become to much of a bother. And 3rd possibility, she has had it done so much, either negative effects start happening as a result, or she just becomes immune.

The reason for Miko's memory errors are...
I always assumed that Miko didn't get her mind wiped because she passed out during the process of getting her memory wiped, causing a glitch in the process. It is possible that it is impossible to wipe a mind that is unconscious. Or while Miko did see the screen, she was knocked out in the process, cutting the loading bar short.

The reason for Five's memory wipes are...
1) Memory wipes aren't 100% fool-proof (well, duh). While the memory of the events are gone, if particularly strong emotions were formed from said event and the victim encounters stuff that jogs their memory, they'll regain their complete memories.

2) Hinobi-tech can un-wipe memories caused by Hinobi tech. After Five saw the bracelet he instantly regained his memory. Although this doesn't have much credence as if this were the case, then simply seeing the Hinobi van should've jogged his memory.

Someone will Dual Wield Hinobi gauntlets
They look ambidextrous and the glove portion isn't stuck to the gauntlet so it can be worn on either hand. Could be utilized by either Five or Miko if the other is down or Mitch because he thinks it would be cool.

Five and/or Miko will be surprise DLC fighters in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
Being from a show that is themed on gaming, they'd fit right in. Plus, the show needs more promotion if it's (hopefully) still going on.

Paramount+ is currently negotiating with Netflix to distribute the series from one streaming service to another
Wishful thinking I know, but there's a small chance that the show is merely in limbo if not outright canceled. It was in a similar scenario when Nick stopped developing it and dumped it onto Netflix in the first place. Perhaps there's been a change of plans? There exists some animatics of what a hypothetical Season 3 has in store, and it is gaining popularity as a Cult Classic.
