Venture to Kortia, a fantastical world where magic and blessings are commonplace, and where things are not all they seem. A world where you can experience many great adventures, it's a world threatened to be torn apart as two nations are at the cusp of war. Adventurer has been unceremoniously torn from their normal life and dropped into Vallauria, this new world in which they now must call their home, in a body foreign to them, with no knowledge of how they got there or why. Hired as a new farmhand to a wealthy family, they must keep their true nature under wraps. Who knows who might be watching.

Whether becoming a hero, villain, or anything in-between, the audience eagerly waits to see how their new life will unfold. As Adventurer becomes adjusted to their new surroundings, they will meet new and even strange people, of the likes of which they have never seen. Gerald, whose dark and troubled past is at odds with his hidden good nature; Luna, who longs for a better life beyond her duties as a maid; Alexis, a wealthy girl whose kind reputation reportedly hides her darker side; Zeno, a well-respected knight whose affability matches his renowned skill; Princess Florus, the heiress to the Kortian Empire who wishes to prevent suffering of others, and Lord Dyclos, considered to be one of the greatest legends of the world due to his well-documented adventures.

As Adventurer wishes to go home, they must be very careful of the decisions they make and the relationships they wish to cultivate. Their experiences in this world may change them, for better or for worse. They will need to be not only cautious, but clever in what they choose to do in this newfound world.

After all, their life depends on it.

Kortia is an online visual novel created by Dulcet Games Inc. Kortia was released to the public in September 2020.

For simplicity's sake, the player character will be referred to as "Adventurer", with "they/them pronouns".

In July 2022, it was confirmed by the game's creator, King Crimson, that Kortia as it was is canceled. However, that doesn't mean Kortia as a story is over: a novel titled Kortia Rewritten will be published chapter by chapter on the official Discord server. The visual novel itself will be redone to better fit King Crimson's original vision.

Kortia provides examples of:

  • Audience Surrogate: Since Adventurer is as new to Kortia as the player is, this allows the audience to learn about the world at the same time that they do. Adventurer often asks questions and make observations about the events Kortia that the player might share.
  • Cut Short: The game was abruptly ended after Episode 3, due to the creator leaving Dulcet Games (the games' publisher).
  • Guide Dang It!: The branching for various routes is quite developed, with the smallest action by the player seemingly making a league of difference in not only dialogue but the plot of the chapter. This is most notable in chapter 3, where player choices dramatically alter how the events of the chapter play out.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Soon after starting the game, the announcer will ask the player to declare their name in front of the audience. A pop up will appear after where the player can type in whatever name they want to give their Adventurer, as well as the player character’s pronouns. The chosen name will also appear whenever dialogue occurs, and other characters will refer to Adventurer through their chosen name and pronouns.
  • Our Mages Are Different: Kortia has two different types of magic; Magic and blessings. Magic involves manipulating the world’s magical energy to perform certain tasks or feats (i.e teleportation). While any magic-user can perform the same abilities as each other with enough practice, blessings are powers unique to the individual . A Vallaurian cannot have magic as well as a blessing, although there is one supposed exception to this rule; Lord Dyclos.
  • Player Character: You play as Adventurer, a college-age self-proclaimed otaku who wakes up one morning in the body of a different being.
  • Romance Side Quest: The romantic aspect of the game is not a requirement but a bonus feature, and a story-only mode is available. For those interested in the romantic aspect, there are seven love interests.
  • Score Screen: After a complete play through of every chapter, the player will receive a pop-up that acts as a summary of the effects of how they played the chapter. It’ll detail how much friendship/love points were gained or lost in the chapter, how many pages of dialogue read, how many choices made, and so on. After reading the summary and closing the pop-up, the chapter will be listed as fully complete.
  • Technicolor Magic: Most examples of magical ability are portrayed with the colour purple in some way. Most magic users either have their magic glow purple (Gerald), or their eyes glow purple as well (Luna).
  • Trapped in Another World: Adventurer wakes up one morning in the land of Kortia, their consciousness housed in one of its inhabitants' bodies.
