"What do you think of that?!"

Under Fire is a 1994 Light Gun Game from Taito, similar to Konami's Lethal Enforcers 1 except now uses sub-machine guns at start and centered on special police force officers.

A metropolitan city is being threatened by a powerful street gang called the "Hoppers". The situation has gotten worse in that even the local police is powerless to stop them.

In response, the city's mayor decides to send in a special police force armed with sub-machine guns to wipe out the Hoppers and to put an end to the crime wave.

This game provides examples of:

  • Amusement Park of Doom: The first stage of the game is at a carnival overrun by the criminals.
  • Big "NO!": Happens if a hostage or police officer is shot.
  • Chase Scene: Stage 3 is a car chase.
  • Destination Defenestration: The Big Bad is killed like this at the end.
  • Evil Laugh: Bosses will laugh at you if they manage to hit you.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: At the end of Stage 5, an indestructible attack helicopter awaits you. You can't destroy it; all you can do is shoot at the missiles it fires at you until it eventually flies away.
  • More Dakka: Unlike other police-themed light gun games, your primary weapon is a sub-machine gun with a shotgun as a side weapon. You can also get a Full Machine Gun power up, which will cause the announcer to say, "Full Machine Gun Power! Fire! Fire! Fire!"
  • Non-Action Big Bad: When you confront the Big Bad at his headquarters, all he can do is send out his men to kill you, followed by The Dragon.
  • Post-Final Boss: Once The Dragon is defeated, the Big Bad will attempt to kill you with a single handgun. Unfortunately for him, the pistol won't do jack shit against you, and the Big Bad will go down in seconds if you either shoot him to death or the gun runs out of ammo and explodes in his face.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Most bosses will do this when confronted.
