A pair of Minecraft horror maps in homage of the works of H. P. Lovecraft:
Calmere Nightmare is set in the small village of Calmere, Massachusetts, in 1934. The protagonist is trying to find out what happened to his friend, who went to the village to work as a teacher.
Calmere Nightmare 2 follows an FBI agent who is sent in to investigate the recent strange events in Calmere.
This series contains examples of:
- Abandoned Hospital: Well, it's an asylum, but it's abandoned nonetheless.
- Dream Sequence: Several of these happen over the course of the story. It's left ambiguous if they really were dreams, and if so, which parts.
- Eldritch Abomination: In both maps, the villagers are trying to summon these. They're only vaguely mentioned and represented by retextured Ghasts.
- Lovecraft Country: A small, mysterious Town with a Dark Secret in Massachusetts in the '30s, populated by a cult of not-quite-humans who want to summon an Eldritch Abomination.
- Mind Screwdriver: The second map explains that at the end of the first map, the protagonist went insane, meaning that we were watching the ending Through the Eyes of Madness.
- Mooks, but no Bosses: There is one fight that could be considered a boss, but it goes down just as easy as a normal monster.
- Sanity Slippage: Starts happening to the protagonist before long. According to the second map, the protagonist went insane at the end of the first map.
- Shout-Out: The whole map is one to the Cthulhu Mythos, but there are many specific examples from all over the maps.
