Beatstar is a mobile rhythm game released in 2021 created by Space Ape, and has been continually updated since. The game is similar to piano tiles games, where you pick a licensed song and tap the notes to the beat of the song. The songs range from pop, to hip-hop, to electronic (labeled as Dance in-game), rock (and metal), alternative, and recently, R&B and country. Players are ranked on their score and can get either a gold, platinum, or diamond rank depending on how well they do, with a perfect run earning a diamond perfect. The game is available on Android and iOS and can be found on their respective storefronts.

On September 21 2023 a spin-off featuring country music exclusively called Country Star was released on iOS and Android

Tropes about Beatstar

  • Allegedly Free Game: To be expected from a free mobile game. From buying gems, songs, the tour pass, unlimited play, and song cases, you can spend a surprisingly high amount of money on this game.
  • Boss in Mook's Clothing: Some hard songs are definitely harder than others and can even be considered as hard as some of the easier extreme songs. The most infamous examples would be We Won't Cooperate, Go, All My Life, Thrift Shop, and Thrash Metal Cassette.
  • Crossover: Due to Space Ape being partially owned by Supercell, songs from those games appear as part of either promotions or the "Gamer" box. Examples being The Clash of Clans theme, the Hay Day theme, and the Brawl Stars theme. Along with those, there's some unrelated games that have their songs appear, such as Everybody Falls, Hotshot (Hot Lap League), and the Surgeon Simulator 2013 theme being available.
  • Dolled-Up Installment: Country Star is the same game as Beatstar but with only country music.
  • Fake Band: The Bad Randoms, the artist of four songs, all relating to Brawl Stars. The specific songs are Mortis Game, We Won't Cooperate, Together, and Healing Lies.

  • Harder Than Hard: The Extreme difficulty contains the most amount of notes per song, and the charts are more hectic compared to the Hard difficulty.
  • Idiosyncratic Difficulty Levels: Downplayed. The difficulties go to Normal, Hard, and Extreme.
  • No-Damage Run: By technicality, EVERY run has to be like this, as missing just one note fails the song. To be more specific, hitting every note with a Perfect+ earns you a diamond perfect, the highest possible rank to get in a song.
  • Permanently Missable Content: Certain songs are only available during tour passes or multiplayer events. Once they're gone, they're gone. Some tour pass songs get made available later as part of the Tour Box, or get added to the Journey, which could then be unlocked from boxes, but a good number of songs are still unobtainable.
  • Regional Bonus: Japan and Brazil's journeys get extra songs not in global versions. These songs can still be obtained outside of these regions via the International Box that pops up in the shop. The extra songs are as follows:
    • Japan: Apollo by Porno Graffitti, Ao to Natsu and Inferno by Mrs. GREEN APPLE, Deeper Deeper and The Beginning by ONE OK ROCK, DEPARTURES by globe, Megitsune by BABYMETAL, Neko by Dish, and Usseewa by Ado.
    • Brazil: Anna Julia by Los Hermanos, Flash Pose by Pabllo Vittar and Charli XCX, Roots Bloody Roots by Sepultura, and Show das Poderosas by Anitta.
  • Some Dexterity Required: Certain extreme charts demand this, such as Stand Up Tall (who's fast rapping vocals require some speed to hit properly), The Trooper (who's solo is charted really fast and goes across the board), and We Live Forever (which is in a similar boat to The Trooper in having notes go everywhere). Even certain hard songs get pretty hectic, such as Thrash Metal Cassette, The Bad Touch, and We Won't Cooperate.
