Trivia / Theatre of Tragedy

Go To

  • Bonus Material:
    • Re-editions of Theatre of Tragedy include the 1994 demo, with the otherwise unreleased "A Song By The Hearth?!" and "Soliloquy" besides different versions of "A Hamlet For A Slothful Vassal" and "Dying - I Only Feel Apathy".
    • The Velvet Darkness They Fear reissue has demo versions of "Der Tanz Der Schatten", "And When He Falleth" and "Black As The Devil Painteth".
    • "Samantha" and "Virago" are both Aégis outtakes / bonus tracks. Reissues include edited versions of "Cassandra" and "Aœde" from the Cassandra single.
    • Musique had one bonus track, "The New Man". Reissues include several remixes and a demo version of "Image" called "Quirk".
    • Assembly had a Cover Version of "You Keep Me Hangin' On"; reissues similarly include remixes.
    • Storm has two bonus tracks: "Highlights" and "Beauty In Deconstruction".
    • Forever Is The World has two as well: "Empty" and "The Breaking".
  • Creator Backlash: All over the place with Raymond; after the band split, he publicly (and literally) trashed the first three albums on social media, while still remaining somewhat fond of the synthrock/industrial ones. That is, until he backpedalled and joined Liv on tour singing the old songs.
    • He's been quoted as considering his part of the lyrics on "Frozen" as his least inspired work for the band.
  • Creator's Oddball: The industrial / synthrock parentheses of Musique and Assembly.
  • Executive Meddling: Massacre Records tried to invest on Liv Kristine as a solo artist in the late Nineties; as a result, they demanded that her vocals be given more prominence in the mixing of Aégis.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: In 2017, Tommy Olsson released via Soundcloud some demos from Aégis ("Lorelei", "Angélique" and "Siren"); the tracks have since been removed and only circulate via file sharing by the fans.
  • Production Posse:
    • Hein and Nell are both involved in Kristian Sigland (Nell's husband)'s band, The Black Locust Project; in turn, Kristian produced the Tornado Mix of "Storm" as Rustflower Inc.
    • Magnus Westgaard, the session bass player on Storm and Forever Is The World, played in Nell's previous band, The Crest.
    • Nell and Lorentz have written some (as of yet unreleased) music together after the band split up.
    • Tommy Olsson and Liv Kristine reunited to co-write and co-produce her latest EP, Have Courage Dear Heart.
  • Promoted Fanboy: The band members were very active on their official message board and would gladly involve the fans in their projects when the chance arose.
    • The Ambrosius Remix of "Frozen" from the Addenda EP was produced by a long-time fan and member of the message board.
    • The cover artwork for the Addenda EP was selected among the works submitted by fans through a contest.
    • The band photo on the Last Curtain Call CD and DVD booklet was shot at the final meet & greet in Stavanger and provided by a fan.
  • Romance on the Set: Inverted. Raymond and Liv Kristine were already dating when he started Theatre of Tragedy, and that's how she got involved in the band too. They remained and are still to this day Amicable Exes.
    • Played Straight when, later on, Liv met her eventual husband, Alex Krull of Atrocity, while on tour together. After a few years, it devolved into a bit of a Yoko Oh No situation which contributed to her firing.
  • Screwed by the Network: AFM Records couldn't bother to spare some money to produce the Last Curtain Call live CD/DVD, so the band had to crowdfund it not to disappoint the fans before splitting up.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally the band had written many demos of what would become Storm for Liv, and sent them over for her to do her vocals. If only she had replied to those mails...
    • At some point the band considered covering Britney Spears' "Toxic" on their farewell show as a joke for the fans, but ultimately decided against it not to distract from the mood.
