Trivia / The Trumpet of the Swan

Go To

  • All-Star Cast: The 2001 animated adaptation includes the voices of Jason Alexander, Mary Steenburgen, Reese Witherspoon, Seth Green, Carol Burnett and Joe Mantegna.
  • Blooper: In the opening of the 2001 animated film, Louis's parents are shown with a single egg in their nest, even referring to it as such. Mid-conversation, they suddenly start mentioning "eggs" in the plural sense and two extra eggs have now appeared without explanation beside the first one. This suggests that Louie's two sisters were originally going to be Adapted Out along with their brothers from the book, and were re-added to the film later in development, likely when the opening song where Louis's father sings about "three perfect eggs" was written. The first half of the scene was kept from an earlier draft where Louis was going to be an only child.
  • Creator-Driven Successor: The book could be considered one to Charlotte's Web (though without the earlier book's heavier themes).
  • Referenced by...: In The Someday Birds, Charlie's dad tells him to make a list of birds he'd like to see in the wild. The first bird Charlie comes up with is a trumpeter swan, because he's just read The Trumpet of the Swan.
  • What Could Have Been: If the 1973 adaption of Charlotte's Web had performed better, White might have allowed Chuck Jones to adapt The Trumpet of the Swan.
