- Fake Nationality: Peter Sellers (An Englishman of English/Jewish/Portuguese descent) plays an Indian — not for the first or last time, mind you. There is Values Dissonance for modern viewers as a result. The "Movies You May Have Missed" web show hosts considered this for their first review of a Sellers movie, but were so uncomfortable with the dissonance that they chose to do Being There instead.
- Harpo Does Something Funny: The original script was only about 60 pages long. Pretty much all of the movie was just Blake Edwards lining the actors up and letting Sellers go wild.
- Prop Recycling: Production designer Fernando Carrere reused the fireplace he had designed for The Pink Panther (1963) in this film.
