Trivia / The Jerry Springer Show

Go To

  • Banned in China: It lasted for one episode in Malaysia before it was unceremoniously pulled.
  • The Cast Showoff: When a guest says that they're a dancer, stripper, rapper or some other type of performer, the audience immediately chants, "LET'S SEE!" Sometimes (usually the strippers and dancers), they're quite good. Sometimes (especially the rappers), they're horrible. If a rapper messes up, sometimes an audience member will challenge them during the questions segment at the end.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • Jenny Jones, Ricki Lake, Maury Povich, and many other tabloid talk show hosts. One could also argue that Jerry's trashier bent was due to the success of Geraldo.
    • Steve got his own Spin-Off, which has the added bonus of Steve tearing into guests he doesn't like.
    • A show called The Test, hosted by Kirk Fox, attempted to combine elements of Jerry Springer and Maury. It leans more toward Maury or Steve Wilkos with DNA and lie detector tests. This still makes it no more than two degrees of separation from Springer.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • As the norm with most syndicated talk shows. Most of the run during the show's years in Chicago are no longer rerun, and the early episodes produced in Cincinnati have simply vanished, having not been rerun since at least the mid-90's.
    • The Nosey app has a number of episodes from the both the Chicago and Stamford eras legally available for streaming, but only if you can handle the large number of ads that are tacked onto the episodes.
      • Nosey has since started streaming their library of episodes on Pluto TV and YouTube.
  • Long Runner: It's the third longest-running daytime talk show in the United States, behind only Maury and Live!.
  • Referenced by...: "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Jerry Springer", a parody of "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies, riffs on Springer's talk show.
