Trivia / The Flight of Dragons

Go To

  • Acting for Two: James Gregory voiced both Smrgol and Bryagh.
  • Banned in China: While it was never officially banned, the film used to be broadcast in Israel every summer on the Educational Channel (a government-funded PBS equivalent) until one lady called to complain - while it was on the air - that one of the characters, the good wizard Carolinus, is an "antisemitic stereotype", due to his large nose and the stars (resembling Stars of David) on his robe. Never mind that he was the unambiguously good guy (if not Big Good), or that his robe also featured moons which are, if anything, a Muslim symbol. The broadcast was cut short and the film was never shown on Israeli TV again.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: Though it was produced in 1982, the only release it got that year was a straight-to-video release in Great Britain. It didn't air in the US until 1986 on ABC (the Rankin/Bass version of The Wind in the Willows suffered the same fate, though with less time between completion and airing).
