Nightmare Fuel / The Flight of Dragons

Go To

  • Big Bad Ommadon, for starters. An Evil Sorcerer / Evil Overlord with a hideous hobgoblin-like face, who rules his own Mordor-like kingdom and lives in a tower with a skull-shaped top. His Evil Plan includes "infesting the spirit of the human race", pushing it to its worse, most chaotic limits (greed, destruction of the nature and, ultimately, nuclear war).
  • Bryagh, Ommadon's literal dragon, the single most ferocious and cruel fire-breather of the Realm of Magic. Whereas Ommadon at least has the immensely entertaining perk of being voiced by James Earl Jones, who eats up the role like candy, Bryagh is a sadist who devours the eggs of his own kind, shows open glee at the prospect of leading his legions to "attack, demolish, devour, burn, grind" his enemies to dust, only ever talks to proclaim his intention to horribly murder people (all four of his relatively stark lines are variations of "Prepare to Die") and manages to effortlessly murder four of the film's main heroes one after another in the climax, smugly laughing in Orrin's face shortly after having slaughtered his love interest right in front of him.
  • The Sandmirks, countless Gollum-ish creatures whose horrible noise is so painful to hear that they can drive the victims mad.
  • The Ogre of Gormley Keep, a monstrous, big-lipped and peg-legged giant with three eyes (one of which has been blinded) serving as the Gate Guardian of Ommadon's kingdom. The whole company (bar the elf and the dragons) is completely at his mercy and gets kidnapped while they were taking a rest at an inn, and the innkeeper doesn't survive the attack.
    • Melisande, while in her pseudo-coma, got a brief glimpse of him in the dark with glowing eyes, which scared her so much that she briefly woke up. We can see the fear in her eyes.
  • The gigantic Worm of Sligoff.
