- Actor-Inspired Element: The image of Odo sitting with his "hair" mussed up was inspired by a painting René Auberjonois saw of a defeated samurai in the rain.
- Creator Backlash: While considering it far from being one of the worst episodes of the show, executive producer Ira Steven Behr later admitted that they had really messed up Shakaar's characterization in this episode, turning him from a hard-nosed resistance fighter into someone almost impossibly perfect. What's more, actor Duncan Regehr's other work commitments meant they weren't able to bring him back to repair the damage — outside of one appearance in the following season's "The Begotten", where he basically acted as a sitcom boyfriend to Kira — eventually forcing them to ditch the character.
- Throw It In!: René Auberjonois had the idea on the spot to have a bit of Odo's hair come loose during his breakdown.
