Miscellaneous

  • The Season of Aurora isn't the first time Sky and Aurora have collaborated: she provides the vocals for the first cutscene in Isle of Dawn, and the ending sequence in Orbit.

Trivia Tropes

  • Demand Overload: The participation and success of the Aurora concert crashed the game's servers. In some instances, the performance itself went off without a hitch, only to crash the servers immediately afterwards as the game attempted to shuffle thousands of players back into their regular game sessions.
  • Development Hell: The Apple TV and native Mac ports of the game were announced but never come out or cancelled.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Journey (2012), from similar character designs and co-op mechanics, to the familiar visual elements like the light bubbles that accompany chirping.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The Seven Days of Sky show a lot of scrapped concepts, such as:
      • The Elder of the Isle was originally going to be a vulture who lived in a ruined temple. Later on, they became a gatekeeper who informs the player about the history of the Kingdom of Sky, then sends them off on a boat.
      • As for the Isle of Dawn, at one point, it was going to be a dark city, signaling the transition from the real world into the world of Sky.
      • The Valley Elders appeared to be more feminine and weld flutes with flames on them.
      • The Elder of the Forest was going to seduce and trap the player in a foggy maze— an early concept for Hidden Forest as well.
      • Golden Wasteland was going to have modern factories.
      • The Elder of the Wasteland was a soldier who lost everything, but regained hope after encountering Sky children.
      • They were also going to be half-corrupted, being awakened by Sky children. They would sacrifice themself to the Dark Creatures to save them.
    • Sky: Light Awaits also showed a turtle Light Creature in Prairie and a much larger version of Home entitled The Aviary. A turtle would later appear during the Days of Nature 2022 event, albeit with a different design. There were also more detailed capes; however, the designs were removed because it made the game too laggy.
  • Word of God:
    • Certain places and expressions were given names by @thatskygame's social media— for example, the Crab Fields and the Twirling Champion's Triple Axel expression, respectively.
    • The spirit who gives you quests in-between seasons is appropriately called the Quest Giver, while the one that sends you to thatskyshop and has a boat with spells in it is called the Sleepy Traveler.
