Trivia / Sk8 the Infinity

Go To

  • Anime First: A wholly original IP by Studio Bones. A comedy manga spin-off called SK8 Chill Out! came shortly after the anime premiered and a manga adaptation began in March 2021.
  • All-Star Cast:
  • Dueling Shows: Aired in the same season as three other sports-based joseimuke anime: the anime original Wave! Surfing Yappe and Skate-Leading Stars, and the anime adaptation of 2.43 Seiin High School Boy's Volleyball Team.
  • He Also Did: The designer for all the series' skateboards, Thomas Romain, was also one of the co-creators of notable French cartoons Ōban Star-Racers and Code Lyoko.
  • Real-Life Relative: Tasuku Hatanaka (Reki) and Sayaka Senbongi (Reki's sister Koyomi) are married in real life. Hatanaka's mother, Keiko Fukushima, also provided the voice for Reki's mother Masae.
  • Throw It In!:
    • More of an animation example; the face on Reki's headband mirroring his expressions wasn't instructed by the director, and it was just something the animators added in for fun.
    • For the dub, David Wald's line, "Hey, bitches and bros and non-binary hoes!" was a line he ad-libbed for fun which ended up being used in the episode itself.
  • Troubled Production: A unique case of it as described in more detail here. While under normal circumstances a tight-knit regular staff with a short rotation period wouldn't be an issue, because the show's animation production was done during the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff had to work on almost every episode one after another in a very rushed fashion with little leeway in getting external help until near the very end.
  • What Could Have Been: Cherry was supposed to have a Signature Move during his beef with Adam, but Utsumi scrapped it as it wouldn't have fit with Adam's line of him being boring.
  • Word of Saint Paul:
    • According to Kensho Ono (Tadashi), he states in SK8 After Talk #10 that Tadashi is actually older than Adam.
    • The English voice actors for Cherry (Daman Mills) and Joe (Jonah Scott) interpreted their characters as gay and bisexual respectively. Mills even admits that during some of the line recordings he does purposefully make lines aimed at Joe a bit more flirtatious in tone. Similarly, Scott explains other indicators of interest, such as making Joe sound more intrigued when he was looking at Cherry's legs in Episode 6.
