Trivia / Roddy Piper

Go To

  • Died During Production: Piper died a mere 23 hours after tweeting an announcement for a podcast he was to appear in.
  • Fake Nationality: He was billed from Scotland; he's actually from Saskatchewan (however, he actually is of fully Scottish descent).
  • Fountain of Expies: Of the 'Rock 'n' Wrestling' era in particular.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Roddy's interview and match at Wrestlemania VI is edited out of the Peacock TV version of the broadcast. This was the match where Piper infamously painted half his body black.
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: He said in WWE Magazine that most people told him how much they loved the "Piper's Pit" segment from WrestleMania V where he sprayed Morton Downey Jr. with a fire extinguisher; he personally disliked the segment, as Downey was a massive jerkass who thought he was better than wrestling, and Piper said it took all his self-control not to hit Downey over the head with the extinguisher as well.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Got blackballed and fired from the Georgia territory for showing up late for a match in 1982.
  • What Could Have Been: His appearance at Wrestlemania 25 came about because Mickey Rourke's agents advised him not to work with WWE, insisting it would cost him best actor from his role in The Wrestler. Thus Piper, Jimmy Snuka and Ricky Steamboat were put in a match against Chris Jericho. Piper was vocally unhappy about it but decided to help 'the entertainment company' in the end.
