Trivia / Revolutionary Road

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: The French title is Les Noces rebelles, which translates as "The Rebellious Wedding". Either it's a "Blind Idiot" Translation of "Revolutionary" (which is really just the road on which the couple lives) or it might allude to April's bourgeois bohemian dreams.
  • Deleted Scene: A handful, all available on the DVD or YouTube. At least one has a little more interaction between April and Shep, thus fleshing out his crush on her.
  • Method Acting: Kate Winslet voiced that her relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio is so solid, she would have let him physically harm her if the scene required it, to better their performances. That said, she apparently drew a bit of a line at the kissing scenes if only because their close friendship made her feel like she was "kissing her brother", not to mention she was married to director Sam Mendes at the time.
  • Saved from Development Hell: There have been attempts to adapt the book to the screen as far back as 1961, when the novel itself was published. A lack of commercial prospects caused the project to be in limbo until the 2000s. BBC Films eventually purchased the film rights to the novel and Justin Haythe rewrote the screenplay. Kate Winslet read the script and persuaded her then-husband Sam Mendes to direct and Leonardo DiCaprio to play the role of Frank.
  • Those Two Actors: The one thing people always notice first about the film — it reunites the leading acting couple of Titanic.
